I'm talking about something like a narrow vertical run of this kind of perforated panel (pic of Route 9 Library in Delaware).

Just to be clear, my intention here would be to somehow add a dash of eye-catching detail to offset the plain panels a bit. The cathedral itself offers an abundance of texture and detail for the eye to feast on, and so does the front of the Royal Theatre, so why couldn't these towers make their own unique contribution in this regard?

Note: I'm sure not suggesting anything like a rusted metal look or an industrial look. That weathered/industrial vibe would be all wrong for this site.

Is there anything along those lines, that might tie in with a gothic cathedral, or whatever the style is at Christ Church?

How the heck should I know? I'm the ideas guy. The paradigm shifter. The synergistic innovator. I leave the legwork to Bohemian artsy SOB's like you or Rob Randall.

I'd suggest something like this for the podium but the last building to incorporate this design didn't fare too well.

Anyway, I don't think the new construction on this block needs to be burdened with those considerations. I just want a half-decently impressive building that's half-decently worthy of the exceptional height they're after. We can assume the new construction on the cathedral's block will be taking on those challenges with gusto, can we not? And if they don't bother over there then why should anyone else be bothering on adjacent properties?

You assume? When’s the last time design expectations were remotely close to what you assumed? 1907?

I'm just saying it would be rather insane to expect new buildings in the vicinity to respond to Gothic revival design considerations via a 21st-century lens if the new buildings on the cathedral property don't bother to do the same.

I don't think I would be able to stand any kind of insane circumstance in Victoria's development scene. I'm not emotionally prepared for something like that.

Can neither confirm or deny that we have infra-red video evidence of RR in a canoe with Alex Jones, at night, paddling furiously up the Russian River toward the BG........

Yeah if you listen to the WH tapes from the Nixon years he had a lot of weird things to say about a lot of things and people. Biggest criminal to ever win the Presidency. The most dangerous too. As a Republican his comment about the B-G "San Francisco people" is exactly what I would expect from someone of Tricky Dick's ilk.....

Well I haven't delved into the dev tracker yet but on first pass I would say this a big ask for this spot. I see a lot of potential on the ground floor with the layout but I am not sure that the building design is worthy of the location at 26 floors. It seems that from an architectural perspective the higher we go the lower our standards have gotten. I mean I remember being at the Juliet hearing talking with John Stovell about all of the work they put into that design to get it approved at 14 storeys, which was rare at the time, and I still think it is a great building all these years later. I am not fussed about a building being 26 storeys but if they are going to do it we should be asking for at least the same level of thought and design as went into the Juliet.

I will have more to say after I dig around in the dev tracker I am sure.

Do you mean a different project, or Chard’s Juliet on Johnson?

And yes, the architecture does seem fairly standard for such a tall building. Compare this to GMC’s proposal for the Carlton Club site in Esquimalt. It’s quite a marked design difference, and same height. Perhaps there is a design rationale that Concert will elaborate on?
