"Notoriously tight lot?" Really? There's always tons and tons and tons of parking at Hillside mall. It's just that people seem to want to frustratedly drive around looking for the 1 free spot in front of Bolen Books and the food court rather than drive around to any of the other sides of the mall (where there are a million spots) and *gasp* have to walk 30 seconds to get inside. Also, nobody ever parks on the roof.

You guys are right, of course, but I have to say I had a very tough time finding a spot the day I went there just before Christmas. The reason? The roof was closed because of the snow!

Gret idea. There is a real shortage of mens and womens fashion stores in town and they all do so well!

I wonder if they still plan on bringing in H&M?

Funny you should mention that. The mock up drawings for the facade showed some imaginary tenants to show what potential signage might look like on the renovated exterior. One of the signs said M&M in the same style as the H&M store.

The plans call for 450 trees to be planted.

450??? That's a lot of trees. How the heck are they going to do that?

I recall the agenda said something to the effect that 450 trees will be "retained or planted" so that number includes existing trees on site. If you look at Google maps you can see them although many of them are around the perimeter of the property.

As regular users of Hillside mall I do agree with Amor de Cosmos - it's about bloody time the mall, and grounds were re-vamped. The car service shop was closing when we left for Europe in the early '90's and I was really surprised to return a few years ago to see nothing had changed.

The attached plan was a bit small to read but if they are not included a couple of suggestions...

There should be a transit bus loop, within the grounds, near a mall entrance - with stop light access from/to Hillside and Shelbourne, and allowance for the daily buses that come from the seniors/care homes.

Add far more parking spots for handicapped and mother/children - these are always taken.

Sorry, I'm out of the loop here. That shows an elevated parkade on the North Dairy side, right? Is that a bridge from the parkade to the second floor of Sears?

I would also go few steps further, add more commerical/residential/office space with underground parking on the corner in front of Thrifty Foods. Disguise the car parkade with commercial/office in front.

Is that empty space at the northeast corner of the mall in front of the parkade?

I'd like to see a little residential here.
"Beaver, ahoy!""The bridge is like a magnet, attracting both pedestrians and over 30,000 vehicles daily who enjoy the views of Victoria's harbour. The skyline may change, but "Big Blue" as some call it, will always be there."

Here are some low-res cell phone pics of some of the promo materials that were displayed at the City Hall CotW. The new construction is outlined in yellow--one large triangle and two small areas:

^I don't recall a time frame. The drawings emphasized the fact that they were concepts only.
