... In twenty years people won't even know the name of the building whereas twenty years ago it was seen as the one stop ghetto for the city.

In 20 years View Towers will still look like soviet style housing...unless by some miracle it gets demolished. This Harris Green project need not take any cues from VT.

Well on that first, that was built a long time ago. And I still kind of like View Towers, it is one building downtown. I find Tara Place much worse. If we keep building along the lines of the diversity we have been for the last ten years I think that Victoria can have one building like View Towers. In twenty years people won't even know the name of the building whereas twenty years ago it was seen as the one stop ghetto for the city.

And if you want affordable housing this is what you get. Nobody is going to spend a ton of money designing something that is going to rented out at below market. Why would you?

^ Well that is hard to argue with. The place across from the arena is pretty nice but I don't think that it actually ended up being affordable. Though I thought this was a market rental not affordable housing??

The thing is, if built, it would be the only new tower this bland. I can't think of another building built downtown in recent years that could beat it.

This building looks a lot like the first two proposals for 1400 Quadra, IMHO. Will be interesting to see how the design changes once staff dig their teeth into it, since 1400 Quadra had a very dramatic design (d)evolution.

Any updates on this proposal?  It looks like there's nothing on Dev Tracker since the initial application made by Townline back in December...

Agreed with Kapten. Any updates?

New plans and documents were posted to Dev Tracker on April 3, 2020.

A significant new design is proposed as noted in the rendering below.  121 units are proposed in the 16 storey tower with unit breakdown as follows (interestingly, a very large number of the units are designated as co-living units):

  • 43 1 bedroom units
  • 24 2 bedroom units
  • 5 3 bedroom co-living suites
  • 37 4-bedroom co-living suites
  • 12 5-bedroom co-living suites

Wait a second...I don't see any tents in that rendering...

Dorm style. You rent a bedroom/bathroom and share the common space/kitchen with the others in your unit. From the plans here, it looks like most of the co-living units have private bedroom/bathroom and then shared kitchen and living room. A few of the co-living units have some bedrooms without private bathrooms. So likely it will be tired rent...Tier 1 is private room, shared bathroom, and Tier 2 is private bedroom/bathroom.

There is also a laundromat in the plans here for the co-living spaces. The other units have in-suite laundry.

Why does the building appear to be on a corner?

It's situated on the corner of Pandora and Vancouver. The Church will be razed.

The congregation vacated the building last month I believe, so the place is currently empty.

Would have been interesting if Cox had managed to assemble the whole site as originally planned.

What other site were they attempting to acquire?

Was Cox trying to buy this project from Townline (the current developer)?

From what I heard, Cox was negotiating with the print shop and the SDA church but was unable to make a deal. Townline came after with a higher offer.

Whoops, I thought I was on the page for 926-932 Pandora for some reason. That makes a lot more sense now.
