Just this week I saw a building described as student housing that surprised me. Can't remember what it was.

edit: it was the one on the corner of Shelbourne and McKenzie.

Do we really think five students would band together in a five bedroom unit to rent an apartment next to Our Place?

As someone who just one year ago was a student illegally living with four others in a 3 bedroom apartment in Saanich (+2 of my roommates' girlfriends that spent most of their time there), I can confirm that yes, that is exactly what students would do. Another friend of mine at UVic is living with six others in a 4 bedroom house.

I now live with one roommate kitty corner from this church in one of the affordable units at 1008 Pandora and would take this location over anywhere in Saanich without a second thought.

Edit: And this "3 bedroom apartment" I lived in included one "bedroom" that was just a loft without a door or windows, and overlooked my "bedroom".

Yah, I don’t see this being low barrier Aastra - the balcony glass seems to be at least medium barrier height.. ;)

Pacifica has some gorgeous buildings, in particular Camas Gardens and a few mid-rises. Just saying.. you read it here first. If the city paid 10 million for an empty lot across the street, how much would they pay for a ready to go building a couple years from now?

Let's hope it isn't a great barrier building. The landlords can be real sharks.

In order to estimate how much the CoV would pay I suppose we'd need to know the value of the ready-to-go building and then roughly triple it. But do you really think they'd dare to have four buildings in close proximity like that? Forget comparisons to the DTES if that happens. Pandora Ave. would officially be in the big leagues.

I hope it does end up getting filled with students. Having a mix of students coming and going with their wide-ranging student hours could be a good counterbalance to some of the other things happening on the avenue. (But considering what our overlords are doing to in-person education these days, I'm not optimistic.)

The western portion of the FotoPrint building is being demolished right now. I would assume the rest of the building and the church should be coming down soon then.

Yes, the church is already being hollowed out so we should be down to an empty lot soon.

Anyone snap pics of this much needed step towards any attempt at revitalizing the notorious 900 block of Pandora? Asking for a friend

I am not sure if dropping a thermonuclear device and starting over from scratch could revitalize the 900 block of Pandora.

Word on the street is demolition will start on Tuesday, but don't quote me on that!

So you're saying I shouldn't take this as the Gospel truth.

"So the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city."

And so the Flying Spaghetti Monster, surveying the scene, turned to his flock - their colanders held high - and said: "Little do they know of that which came before. Those who forget the pasta, are doomed to reheat it. Remember Linguini always, for he boiled for our sins"

I'm not sure if that's spiritual meat or just food for thought.

The SDA church is coming down right now. From my vantage point I'd guess that at least 50% of it is now rubble.
