...Governance, focus on core services and rebuilding trust...

Get this one right, and everything else should happen naturally.

Missing Middle (and alternative approaches) need to be a campaign issue (but is far from the only issue).

True but it usually a single hot button issue which motivates members of your tribe to get out and vote, especially when your tribe is not the one in power and is made to travel a distance and wait in line for hours to vote.

Step #1 for that candidate: go back to school and learn to write English.

Got an email from Stephen Hammond today.  Concise platform statement, link to donation page and request for volunteers.  Juno, I hope you get something like this out soon.

Ditto. I'll have to give some thought to making a donation.

Yesterday I got an election card from Matt Dell.  I was relieved to see that he supports bold climate action, as well as improving everything else.  He has a wealth of practical experience in city management, including a masters in political science from UVIC and involvement in various athletic activities.  On the plus side he may not be certifiably insane.

How will we ever benchmark "climate action"?

The best thing for climate might be to build less housing in Victoria, and for existing housing elsewhere to be better utilized.

Local claims of "bold climate action" always make me laugh. If every resident in the CRD disappeared today, the effect on global climate would zero.

Not according to Bill...

"Here's what I came up with: P * S*E*C = CO2," Gates wrote. "That might look complicated. It's not.

"On the right side you have the total amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) we put in the atmosphere. This is what we need to get to zero. It's based on the four factors on the left side of the equation: The world's population (P) multiplied by the services (S) used by each person; the energy (E) needed to provide each of those services; and, finally, the carbon dioxide © produced by that energy. Both side of the equation need to reach zero, Gates said. So, one of the variables on the left must equal zero for the world to reach its goal of zero emissions."

We don’t need no stinkin’ benchmarks.  Action and good intentions are enough.  And remember, if we do nothing the ocean may be a foot higher in 1,000 years.  So much for your dock at the cottage.

James Bay Neighbourhood Association president Marg Gardiner is running for Council: https://www.marggardiner.ca/

In 2018 she finished in 15th place, with 7041 votes.

Marg is solid.  She’s got a bee in her bonnet about cruise ships but is otherwise right on track.  Definitely a candidate I could support.
