Politics appears so incredibly unappealing and thankless I am not sure I am concerned about a gold plated pension.   The more we can do to bring in quality people, the better.

Well it hasn't seemed to work so far.

Well since federal politics is in general pretty meaningless on a day to day basis, I would likely consider voting for Ben Isitt if he runs.

Presumably as an MP, he'd likely represent a party that would have relatively little federal power, and therefore he would be less harmful in Ottawa than at the CoV council table. Still not sure I could bring myself to vote for him though.

2012:

With 557 eligible voters in attendance, and roughly another fifty observers and media in the overflowing room, Rankin took 352 votes on the first ballot. Cull came in second with 96, while former Victoria school board trustee Charley Beresford chalked up 51 to edge out first term Victoria city councillor Ben Isitt, who took 36 votes, for third place.

BC MPs have to spend more time in airports and in the air than any other MPs in Canada.   Each week Murray Rankin spends about 24-26 hours travelling to and from Ottawa.

but only 27 weeks a year on average if he goes for every session.  and some weeks he does not fly home.    $167,000 per year salary and a $104 per day meal allowance (including $48.15 for every dinner) for every day in ottawa is not bad.

OR if we wind up with a minority Government, Ben then gets to act as King maker like the Greens have in BC.

I'd still sleep better at night if I thought Ben's power was limited to influencing federal Liberal legislation than the current situation where he essentially holds the CoV hostage to his philosophical leanings.

Yeah but even in a worse-case scenario for the NDP where they only win 16 or so seats, Ben is just of sixteen voices. He'll be drowned out by much more moderate voices, like Nathan Cullen, Guy Caron, Daniel Blaikie and Matthew Green (depending on who wins again)

Hopefully he goes federal and if elected ends up in oblivion. The NDP is going nowhere federally IMO. I have no idea what they stand for beyond the old, worn bromides. They seem to have a tradition of following strong leaders with ineffectual ones. Broadbent was succeeded by Audrey Whatshername and Singh is following Jack and Mulcair. Singh has no presence, I dont see much of a political identity beyond his turban. I cant think of anything at all he has said that perked up my ears.
I think they are doomed to their traditional 1/6 or 15-17% of the vote.
So go ahead, Ben, fill your ego and grab off a fat salary with pension upside if you can manage serving six years. You will have zero influence on anything and that's not a bad thing for most of us.

sabina needs someone with even basic writing skills to proofread her site and make changes to the glaring grammar and punctuation problems.  some sentences barely make sense.

Q: How poorly written is it?
A: It's so poorly written that I honestly expected at one point to be offered a share of $10M if I first wired her the fees to release the money!  HIYOOOO!!

All joking aside, at least she has some accomplishments and if I was to put myself in the shoes of the champagne socialists by whom it seems I'm surrounded, I'd be happy that she checks many intersectional boxes.  She blows Laurel Collins completely out of the water.

EDIT: For spelling error, fml lol!

The CoV deserves Ben Isitt.

The thought of him "earning" a gold plated MP pension after 7 years of service makes my skin crawl, so y'all in Victoria can keep him!

The CoV deserves Ben Isitt...

Even the terribly misguided voters in the CoV deserve better. I wouldn't wish him on my worst enemy.

What a choice. The Greens are no better. Not a single person with any experience at all outside of the academic or publicly funded NPO sectors. The sad thing is that one of them will be our next MP in all likelihood.
