Sorry, I don't understand what's going on with this Issit email thing. I thought it was dealt with last year when someone made a formal complaint to City Hall and they assured us it wouldn't happen again.

Indeed.

Something’s not right here.

The rascals at City Hall have slipped in a few last minute items for the COTW meeting tomorrow.

1. Remember the plan to convert City staff to farmers so that they can give away free seedlings to poor people with no place to plant them? Apparently now they need $30K to get the free seedlings to the people with no place to plant them!

https://pub-victoria...ocumentId=53474

2. I was completely unaware that the national day of Azerbaijan was upccming. I know that Human Rights Watch states that they have an "appalling human rights record" but that has never stopped the Mayor and council from recognizing good work with a proclamation.  https://www.hrw.org/...ters/azerbaijanhttps://pub-victoria...ocumentId=53477

3. Now that we can pretend that the campers have been removed from Topaz and Pandora St, council has introduced a motion to continue to allow camping elsewhere by deferring enforcement of the no camping rules (outisde of Topaz and Pandora)! https://pub-victoria...ocumentId=53476. I would have thought that since everyone has a free home now (or the option of one) that there should be no camping at all.

Oh and kudos to the Mayor and staff from updating the agenda after the fact again no doubt hoping that the media would miss it.

"Free" is never more expensive than when it's in the hands of the CoV council.

...council has introduced a motion to LET [the campers] BACK IN by deferring enforcement of the no camping rules...

They are also ensuring the campers, at least the ones at BHP, will be less disturbed by vehicular traffic.

...maintain dialogue between City Bylaw, people living outside, and the people that work with them regarding sheltering-in-place on municipal green spaces under the purview of City Bylaw to mitigate unintended harms of City bylaws to those who are living outside...

https://pub-victoria...ocumentId=53476

Notice anyone left out of the above scenario? You know, the businesses and residents affected by the behaviour of the "people living outside"? Where's the concern "to mitigate unintended harms" of those who are living outside on their "housed" neighbours?

shouldn't they atleast stick to the rules of the parks that allow camping vrs ones that do not allow camping.. there is a rather large list that allow camping... because secretly we all know helps wants another tent city to grow... she loves a good tent city.. few overdoses, a nice big bike chop shop (just don't touch hers! she'll consider it very personal if you do!) and maybe a good ole stabbing or two

^ I see from reading the documents above that Parks and Rec now has a Food Systems Coordinator position. When was that created?

There is also this statement;

400-600 lbs. of produce grown at School District farmyards for families from May to September.

Does the school district have farmyards or are they simply hoping to dig up playgrounds and sports fields?

most schools have multiple garden boxes (rather large atleast 6-8 ft long and probably 3+ feet wide) where they teach kids how to grow foods,in the past they (or atleast my last school) asked someone from the PAC to come by and water every day (or every few days) and the community can help themselves to anything growing there

Esquimalt High has something like that setup along its Ellery Street frontage. I haven’t looked too closely at it but it looks like vegetable gardens.

Camper - person who pays a fee or otherwise uses a space intended for camping and leaves the space better than they found it.  City of Victoria "Protected Squatter" person who uses public spaces at no expense, often leaving those spaces much worse than they found them, while causing the surrounding neighbourhood to experience a variety of harms and avoiding any consequence from city staff.  May be given free housing, free telecommunications and a free and safe supply of drugs in exchange for no longer squatting in a public space not intended for camping.

It's time to end the behavior and enforce the bylaw.  You want to camp - GREAT - find a camping spot and pay the fee and behave accordingly.  You want to squat? No go - you will be immediately directed to a temporary shelter facility with a cot.  Don't like it?  Be directed to a more secure facility.  The congregation of multiple tents (or camper vans for that matter) in spaces not intended for camping for extended periods of time is not acceptable.

Well said AJ. Too bad this sentiment falls on 14 deaf ears in the CoV council.

All three of the links to amendments have been scrubbed. The City should be creating forwarding addresses for these documents.

Oh that's great, thank you for listening. This wasn't a very chatty conversation as we listened to recordings from last night's council meeting. But the thing with the Friday 9AM slot is we never have it planned, and we never know what topics will be raised until go-time.

It looks like the position was established in 2017 at the same time as the Victoria Urban Food Table

Yes, well done.  I tuned in as well and had a listen.  I didn't realize that Mike K of radio fame was you.

The whole segment just made me so angry, honestly. I couldn't believe I found myself agreeing with Helps at one point, although I have to give her credit where credit is due - she proposed something that was fairly logical. The fact that the motion was defeated by what seemed like a rinkydink follow-the-leader vote was disgraceful.  From the sound clip, it sounded like Dubow and Isitt were enthusiastically voting against it and then Potts and Loveday felt like they better support their buddies.

Maybe I'm just overly cynical.
