The goal is to make themselves and their base victims and stoke anger so that they can then be used at the voting station.

 

I think it's pretty clear who the victims are - Cynthia Diadick (who commenced the Beacon Hill Park petition), who had her life threatened and that of her little dog, the single mom whose apartment had repeated attempted break ins, the families who don't feel safe going to a *public park*, the small business owner attacked outside of their place of business (Cherry Bomb Toys), the people who don't feel safe going to work because they've been assaulted, etc.  We've made a community that has fallen apart.  Where those who "have" are told that they are privileged and somehow deserving of attack where those who have not are beyond reproach because they have suffered traumas in their lives or are at the mercy of addiction.  I'm sorry, but in a community - everyone's rights matter and people don't get a free pass on violating somebody else's rights because of their socio-economic status.  We better start doing things differently pretty soon, or things are only going to get worse.

Sadly true. This crew are in no way the compassionate, inclusive, caring bunch they pretend to be.

It sounds like a good one as far as I know. A spring board into regaining self-respect and recovery.
My point is that the current approach enables people to remain in their current state with no expectation of anything in return. I would like to see a plan in place for every person given free housing, a plan that involves some commitment and work (therapy, life skills etc) commensurate to what each person is at, And making the free housing conditional to the work. It would be much better for the people that want to do better, and would likely stop the inflow if people who come to Victoria for the free for all party.

Exactly. Therapeutic communities where we can integrate and assist clients back into the community is valuable.

Richard Leblanc wanted to do this in Central a Saanich and it is operating in View Royal. We need more though.

We paid millions to retrofit the rehab centre in View Royal and how many people are there, is it still 3?

You ask people on the street if they want to kick drugs and most will say no. What they want is free housing, food and supplies to support their habits. As long as we keep playing that game then nothing will improve and we will continue to see the highest rates of overdoses in Canada even though we spend more per capita than anywhere else trying to prevent them.

They deliberately approach things in a way that seems crafted to cause upset and anger. The mayor has even said, I believe that she subscribes to a crackpot theory about causing discomfort. So they do that on purpose and them cry and play the victim when people get upset.

Eg, they way they handled the John A statue seemed almost perfectly calculated to stoke racism. They could have tried to bring people together, but they couldn't. Is it because they are just ridiculously inept, or sadistically trying to create wedge issues?

Well if she really cared about the squatters why doesn't she take the same approach with them?

Didn't Helps say, either just before she was first elected, or shortly thereafter, that Victoria was "too perfect" or something silly like that? I can't recall the exact wording. Well it certainly isn't "perfect" now.

My friend told me to look at Isitt's facebook, where apparently he was jumping for joy over the fact that some of the Starbucks would be closing (that big nasty corporation). I guess a lot commented back  why was he happy folks would be losing their job? So when I went to find it (and his twitter), oh well...both deleted...AGAIN! First-class weasel.

My friend told me to look at Isitt's facebook, where apparently he was jumping for joy over the fact that some of the Starbucks would be closing (that big nasty corporation). I guess a lot commented back why was he happy folks would be losing their job? So when I went to find it (and his twitter), oh well...both deleted...AGAIN! First-class weasel.

It's all about being "non-market"....i.e. government funded so just print money....except.....

 

Printed money needs to come from the Bank of Canada which can print money and then lends it to the federal government at a very low-interest rate.  Because the federal government owns the BOC, it receives dividends, meaning it obtains the loan essentially interest-free.

 

but......

 

If they printed money, then they'd be devaluing the money of everyone who had saved or invested, whereas if they borrow money and use taxes to repay it, the burden falls more evenly across the economy and doesn't disproportionately penalise certain sets of people.

 

Print money......Social Justice......pensions....privileged families with modest homes be damned.

 

It's social polarized warfare.

It's becoming abundantly clear that the goal of a large portion of the CoV council is to destroy all forms of capitalism in Victoria. They intend to "level the playing field" by creating a 20 km² welfare state within the CRD. Sort of a poverty version of Vatican City.

I suppose we can only blame the voters for enthusiastically supporting politicians who represent every agenda contrary to the welfare of those same voters, their families, and their wider community. After all, the election results indicate that large numbers of seniors must have supported programs that were detrimental to seniors, and large numbers of employed people and business operators must have supported programs that were detrimental to employment and the local economy, and large numbers of homeowners and renters must have supported programs that were detrimental to the housing situation, and so forth. Large numbers of Victorians who love Beacon Hill Park and the city parks must have supported programs that were detrimental to Beacon Hill Park and the city parks.

 

Going forward we might want to prepare ourselves for a more intense edition of that familiar game re: trying to find one person in a hundred who admits to having voted for this candidate or that candidate.

Know why Langford had the lowest voter turnout in B.C. in the last civic elections? Because its people were happy.

2/5ths of eligible voters cast a ballot in 2018, and of them 2/5ths supported the mayor and just under half supported the most voted for councillor, councillor Isitt.

Hard to say why so few people voted, but disenfranchisement could have something to do with it.

 

Or they went home after the 4 hour lineup at the polling station.
