I think that includes a lot broader definition of social services though, right? I think that includes things like the arts (Symphony, Opera and so forth). I could be wrong, but Victoria Foundation themselves definitely contribute to the arts.

As you will see from my twitter feed (@Stephen_Andrew), when asked how they reconcile allowing dealers to prey on and assault users and how to explain the growth of violence and property crime, the response came back “ subscribing to the black & white binary of "dealer-predator" vs "consumer-victim" demonstrates a pretty shallow understanding of street dynamics, Stephen.”
It's very thinly veiled cheerleading for organized crime. Back in the day we liked to deny the existence of organized crime. Today we admit organized crime is rampant, but it's the good kind. First we developed an enlightened perspective re: pimping and prostitution (and even human trafficking, as per the recent news items). Now we're developing an enlightened perspective re: drug dealing and drug trafficking. The way things are going, I wouldn't be surprised if we'll soon be developing an enlightened perspective re: firearms trafficking.
Whenever we see people bending over backwards to rationalize the exploitation we should always be asking ourselves, who really benefits from this?

Stirling did not hold back today.
He called council clowns, and one by one lambasted them with a fury I have not heard from him in quite some time. He also made mention of Loveday and Dubow heading home to Esquimalt, and TJ and Alto back to Saanich. He didn't leave the mayor out, he said she heads back to her home in Fernwood near a park that is forbidden as a camping area. Potts, he said, at least lives near Beacon Hill Park, and for Isitt he played clips of him talking about defunding the police.
The host also used other words for council, and they were not very nice. Today's radio show, at least as far as a media personality describing elected officials, was groundbreaking and historic.

Methinks the heavy-handed marginalization re: "personally, I feel safe around pimps, drug traffickers, and firearms traffickers" is ultimately about encouraging naive people to turn a blind eye so this criminal realm can flourish.

Adam nailed it. Full stop.
There have been good people who have been maligned, and subject to status-non-gratus whisper campaigns by some in elected positions right across the region and the island (various meetings Mayors have with each other in the year). Standard practice on Vancouver Island. I've never seen anything like it in the various provinces and communities I've lived in. Many people who contributed tremendously to the capital of BC, Victoria, have packed-up and left for other areas on the island, BC and Canada in part because of the ongoing 'high school' nasty approach here. (Example, anyone remember the fella that founded Buskers Festival? Pumpkin Festival? etc.)
Municipalities are a creature of the BC gov., whom has yet another opportunity, today, now, to step in (the other 'opportunity', one they ignored, was the huge approval to look towards amalgamation).
The community charter is badly in need of an overhaul. Horgan should appoint a minister of municipal affairs and get the job done while reigning in COV.
BC gov., John Horgan, BC NDP are going to end up wearing this if they don't, mark my words.

Hearing that after yesterday’s shocking arrests involving the alleged crime ring outside city hall and today’s closed door meeting, that Victoria Council is doing... nothing today. And may take steps at some point in future.
Good luck, everybody! They’ve lost it. #yyj #bcpoli

There are councilors from other muni's that are fans of the Isitt/Potts TV platform. Especially in Saanich. One hopes they are paying close attention to the train wreck thats taking place and decide perhaps to distance themselves.
I've said it before, the same clowns pushing this agenda are the same group that represent the bike lobby, anti car, Sir John A, decolonization etc, the same names keep popping up

So the argument "Substance UVic" offers is that law enforcement is responsible for the opioid/overdose crisis. That sort of reasoning takes some amazing mental gymnastics - even for the SJWs at my alma mater.

Honestly, at this point, if it came out that certain people were getting payoffs from drug gangs, I'd think, oh yeah, that makes sense.

Yeah, it's been a real war against drugs in Victoria, for sure. Oppressive police environment. Nothing indicates an oppressive police environment quite like comically flagrant criminal activity in high-profile locations.

It's just political agitation. If a city police department were to allow such a flagrant criminal enterprise to continue for long in such a high-profile location (right next to city hall, no less) then it would obviously call into question the allegiances and obligations of the department itself. This is not trivial stuff. There are some serious implications here.

It all comes back around to the premise (now disproved) that a de-stigmatized and permissive environment was somehow an essential ingredient for making things better. How much more permissive can things really get before people start asking questions? Should police be looking the other way if drug dealers start working the front entrance to the police department itself?

Social media posts, many, asking where John Horgan's leadership is in this matter....
As noted in my previous post, it is now at his doorstep. Better do something BC NDP.
And more social housing is not the 'do something' people of this city, island or province are looking for.

There seems to be quite a connection between CoV Council ideology and UVIC, which should put more focus on the university itself. Now that UVIC has veered towards a foundation of ideology, activism and politics should it's status be reviewed? One doesn't expect an objective science based view from a religious fundamentalist school so why would one expect UVIC to always retain it's status and reputation regardless of it's behaviour?
