7,200 kids are covered under this program, so 2,164 equates with an uptake rate of 30%.
Each pass is $37.43 vs the usual $45 which isn't bad but it depends on how often they are used. If you are using them every day then great, but if you walk to school and use the pass once a week, you're paying $4.68 a trip instead of $2.50....not a good deal for taxpayers.
I am wondering if the number will drop once the novelty of a free pass wears off.
