I'm just waiting for some snarky SOB to suggest we have trouble keeping our story straight in this regard:
...
Or they went home after the 4 hour lineup at the polling station.

Thanks to spanky123 for saving me the trouble of suggesting it myself.

Just waiting for Mike K. to say, "I've been in that polling station."
(Relax. It's Canada Day. We're having fun here.)

Relax. It's Canada Day. We're having fun here.
And considering how cold it is today, expect me to be making a lot of posts on this board. The extra typing helps me to stay warm.

In keeping with aastra's hot/cold theme, it will be a frigid day in Hades before I'll cast my vote for any member of the current council (sorry Geoff Young, that includes you too).

I just read this on the city's twitter account. Social value? Starbucks has social value to many....it's a nice place to sit outside with friends.

Very generous of Helps, Isitt et al to rig it so that their base (street community and Saanich-based Uvic) had very easy access. Surprised they didn't install a polling station in the back of Reverend Al's van.

So basically this is the City's plan to establish a list of suppliers (friends) that they can directly award contracts to without tender based on some non-disclosed subjective assessment of social value (friends). If you want to be on the list you need to submit your application by the 15th. The process was outlined in a meeting on the 29th of June.
Glad they made an effort to let Victoria suppliers other than (friends) those who happened to see a twitter posting know about this.

No conflict of interest to see here folks. Move along.

An idea for them for the next election, make all roads within 10 miles of a polling station pedestrian only on voting day. That would keep the evil motorists away.
That's the goal they're slowly working toward for every day, never mind just voting day.

Voting should be made as easy as possible for everyone who is eligible to vote. The turnout for municipal elections tends to be low - which is sad, because of all the levels of government impacting your day to day life, local governments would have the biggest impact. I suspect, part of the problem is that the municipal election is also the most complicated election - where a person is asked to select 9 names (one for mayor and 8 councillors) from a fairly lengthy list. There may also be any number of referendum questions. Both provincial and federal elections only require 1 name from a list of 4 to 6. Sadly, it means some people get returned to office time and time again based on name recognition alone.

This has been the case in the CoV for decades. How else to explain the re-election of our terrible local representatives?

Which of the local Starbucks will be closing?
Last time I walked by (sometime last week), it looked like the one at Fort and Blanshard was shuttered permanently. Not sure which other ones - if any - will close.

This one went through a major renovation for almost two months... It will be fine.
