Are you all forgetting that a BC Liberal won Victoria Beacon Hill in the Liberal landslide in 2001? It should be an easy NDP seat, but with no incumbent you never know.

2001 is definitely the exception to the rule. Not many people voted NDP that year, for good reason, they were in shambles.

p.s. NDP still almost won Victoria Beacon Hill that year.

Note - if I were the NDP, I'd be asking Rob Fleming to shift from Victoria Swan Lake to Victoria Beacon Hill (note, I believe he actually resides in the riding) and running another candidate in Victoria Swan Lake as Victoria Beacon Hill does seem like it's not a lock unless there is a known and well liked candidate running in it.

The Liberals could run and run hard in this riding and might take it - it really isn't what it was 10 years ago and people are peeved at what has been happening locally with respect to the homeless overtaking local parks.

Isn't there another thread for discussion of the next provincial election?

You're right my apologies - goodness knows there's more than enough veering into the wrong lane at council itself, no need to do it here too.

I am still hoping I can cast a vote for Comrade Ben and make him the Province's nightmare instead of just Victoria's.

* this post fits 2 threads!

I would have thought that Comarade Ben would be running federally. After all he is a strong nationalist as well as a socialist so what could go wrong.

I would have preferred to see Ben seek the NDP nomination. The ensuing fireworks with John Horgan would have been worthwhile entertainment.

If he won a provincial seat I am sure he would jump ship in a heartbeat if he thought he could play in the big leagues.

Might still get some of that if Lisa Helps tries for the NDP nomination.

If only his affection for those nice KGB folks could be extended to the evil VicPD. ;)

How did Benny know the guy was KGB? AFAIK secret agents don't run around proclaiming themselves. As a combat veteran once told me, "Those who say, don't know. Those who know don't say."

What is with this belief in Lisa Helps seeking the NDP's nomination? She is not nor has she ever been a supporter, she has an open record of donating and supporting another party (The Greens), and she doesn't get along with the NDP's leader nor any of its local representatives. I've only seen this rumor repeated on this forum.

I also just don't see Lisa Helps as a career politician. Once her term as mayor ends I would anticipate her taking on consultancy work, or being a CEO in the non-profit sector, or something like that. I'd be surprised if she wanted to run for any other political office in the next few decades.

I think the perception is that her ongoing gushing public comments for the NDP are a precursor to a run. I tend to agree that it is unlikely ,especially now that her COS has endorsed Grace Lore.

I have no particular reason to believe Lisa Helps will seek the NDP nomination other than I am sure she feels she deserves a higher office. I suspect she'd run for any party that would have her. Her allegiance is to whatever is best for Lisa.
