looks like a tossup - but based on past results alone, and assuming the general disinterest in by-elections TV has a definte edge.

Stephen's supporters will vote if the weather is nice, they don't have to wait in line too long and they remember to do it. Stephanie's supporters will show up to vote if it is the only thing they do that day, drive all of their friends to the polling station, make volunteers lunch and vouch for some homeless person so that they can also vote TV.  Go to a TV event or listen to the groupthink at UVIC and it is obvious that these people think they are at war with the white male establishment and the only way to establish equity is to knock the people at the top off of their unjustly earned (in their opinion) pedestal. When a group is that rabid and driven then even a small number can have a significant impact.

If TV can control the polling stations as they did in 2018 to make it very difficult or intimidating for older voters to vote while making it easier for students and their supporters then they will be hard to overcome. Also, as we saw a couple of Federal elections ago, they have no qualms at all about breaking election laws to win (ie fake polling data scandal).

You mean control where polling stations are located?

Also do we know if mail-in ballots will be an option for the byelection?

We have a significant team and the GOTV initiative is going to match anything TV puts out.

I expect it will be a significant turnout and likely this will impact the way the votes split.

We welcome one and all to join our team.

Thankfully we secured a huge space for our HQ.

Mayor Helps/City Manager Jenkins agenda @cityofvictoria  has eroded our City and its staff to a dumpster fire From 24/7 camping to 22% turnover of staff in one year while handing out a 42% raise in 4 years to Manager of Executive Operations Sad days ahead for #yyj #yyjpoli #bcpoli

33% turnover Planning Department <1 year-entire @CityOfVictoria over 22% turnover <1 year-6 severance agts with management in 2019 for 39.6 months of comp.

Sad.....  Is anyone held accountable?

Jeremy Loveday is bring forward a motion to hire a consultant to carry a Governance Review.

Among other topics the scope of the review would look at whether "being a Councillor a full or part-time job" and "best practices for reviewing Council remuneration".

I wonder if this consultant will be looking at the time council and councillors spend on what they are responsible for vs things that do not fall under their responsibilities. Hmmm

It is hard to argue against periodic governance reviews as that is just good practice. What is incredible however is that this council doesn't appear to have any appreciation for the economic circumstances we find ourselves in and just keeps hiring and spending like nothing has changed.

That's hilarious. What a buffoon. Being on Council is whatever you make it. It can be very part time if you skim your materials and attend minimum meetings and make up your decisions on the fly. Or it can easily be 12 hours days if you allow it. Meetings with residents, site visits to all developments, reading every page of your agenda.

Loveday's question is more "what is expected" and there's no answer to that. Just because you spend every waking hour on City issues doesn't necessarily mean you're more effective.

Some politicians feel they need to be on top of every detail to be effective and work morning to night. Others think a lot of that is unnecessary fluff that cuts into your personal life. Who is a consultant to judge what is right amount of hours?

The only object of the review is so that they can argue for more pay. The pigs have both feet in the trough.

Absolutely. They want an independent third party to tell the taxpayer that council is overworked serving them, and they require far more renumeration in order to serve them.

There is a lot of talk about some members of council being told wages would be going up during the course of the term. If we recall, it was one of the first pursuits of the newly elected council. Then the measure failed. Now Loveday is back, this time hoping a consultant will make the case for council.

Generally (and I'm not sure if this is actually a requirement in the Local Government Act or not) any salary increases beyond inflation will take place after the next municipal election

No doubt the Council have their minds made up. This is a result looking for corroboration. Isitt and his disciples feel they should be getting way more money because of their importance. They will find a way towards that end.

Stated he loves what he is currently doing.  Why should he have to take another job, one that he might not like Karen?

Have you met him? Spend a few minutes listening to him and you will know why. There are several people on this current council that are way out of their league.

Listening to them speak makes everyone in the room dumber.

Outside of CoV council, what other public realm jobs require a slam poetry background?
