^ That is why I didn't say all!

There are different approaches. Constrain the survey so that you get the results you want (ie CoV surveys that only allow you to choose from answers that have been pre-selected). Constrain the report so that it gives you the interpretation you want (ie PITT survey that defines homeless and locality). Constrain the audience so that only certain groups can complete the survey.

...There's nothing acceptable about how Victoria does this and we deserve real research with real answers, for our money... there's no way to reconcile this "process" with democracy. It's nothing short of a corruption and a con.

This.

or....

Why not hire an outside agency to do a real representative sample. What's missing from this discussion is the fact that it's really not that expensive to do.

There's no barrier I know of (and its sure not money, given what they're spending as it is) to completing an annual survey of priorities prior to budget discussions.

And (going waaaaaaaaay out on a limb here) I bet we can even learn about how LEADING QUESTIONS are so destructive and, like so many decisions we witness, are just another choice that turns people away.

So the city is now going to give grants to downtown businesses that are vandalized.  That’s good, but it highlights their continuing inability or unwillingness to deal with the root of the problem.

Meanwhile, half of the CoV council wants to defund the police. We truly live in bizarre times.

Ok so what about the business that lost money due to shoplifting or has had to pay to hire a security guard? Do they get grants as well or do they just have to use their DVBA and tax money to pay for their competitor's window?

Stupid idea. Use the money to improve the downtown core and fight crime as you are supposed to.

If input to the budget was restricted to people who actually live in Victoria, then a good portion of Council itself would be unable to comment.

Very hard to understand why that problem has not been addressed.

Yup, half of council.

Know it all.
Citified.ca is Victoria's most comprehensive research resource for new-build homes and commercial spaces.

True, but City decisions impact a good number of business operators who may reside outside of the City. Certainly the non-resident councilors are adequately consulting with and representing the views of this otherwise silenced stakeholder group...

Many schemes in the world right now seem to be about optimizing the flow of public money straight down the drain. In this particular case: enable and facilitate crime and vandalism, then use public money to repair the damage, then lather, rinse, repeat.

Stupid idea. Use the money to improve the downtown core and fight crime as you are supposed to.

As per the recommendations in every news story about crime and vandalism over the past ~65 years? Let's not be too hasty about this.

This approach has proven so successful in regards to homelessness, the CoV would be crazy not to apply it to vandalism.  -_-

That seems very cynical. When did they ever try to repair the damage related to homelessness?

CoV council believes they are doing this every day...and to be fair, they did manage to extort money from the province for repairs to the Court House grounds after Lisa's Award Winning Tent City® was disbanded.

I hear she is being nominated for an unprecedented second award for creating the Meegan Sanctuary Village.

Glazier runs more than double a social worker. Pony up.

Which is why we will have new union Glazier Ambassador positions at city hall.
