The stated goal was to cut vehicle traffic by 75%. That goal was accomplished.
It only pushed those cars onto other, more gridlocked streets. Environmental gain = 0. Of course the goal is more about control than the environment and always has been.

^ wasn't the goal to make it safer for bikes? with 75% less cars that is probably the case.

When the vast majority of our local business and community leaders meet with the Mayor they are glowing with praise and highly supportive of her agenda...
But why? What has she ever done to make the local business environment better?

There is no upside in saying what you think, only the belief that if you upset her you will pay for it.

Not very different from Trump and his echo chamber of sycophants.
the great thing about Trump is that he's a great dropping off point so we don't have to immediately compare everyone to Hitler now.

So they are afraid of her?

what's the over/under on victoria being the first municipality to try to ban handguns?
who says it gets on the agenda this week or next?
we tried to be first with plastic bags. we tried to be the first with pot shops. there is no reason to believe we won't waste money trying to be first on this too.

Message to the CoV: stay in your own lane. Firearms management is NOT and never should be a municipal issue.

We know someone who used to live in Fairfield but has been living out in Colwood for a while. Recently she had occasion to drive into Fairfield again and could not believe Vancouver St. Said she and some other motorists were going round in circles trying to get to their destination. That angled jut-out at Vancouver and Yates just seems dangerous to me.

From Lisa's recent email. Indicates clearly her neutral stance on Clover Point:
"But for the rest of us, it's time for the days of driving right up to the ocean to come to an end. I know this will feel like a loss to many people. But by letting go of this practice and by thinking of something much, much bigger than ourselves, there is also a lot to be gained."
In other words, Victoria, FU.
In better news, the president of the Fairfield Gonzales Neighbourhood Association came out this morning declaring that the overwhelming majority of the members oppose the CP plan.

This will unleash a needed new level of 'bylaw' officer. New training, ongoing training, safety gear and everything that comes with policing firearms will be required. A little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing and in this situation will be entirely unacceptable. The 'bylaw' officers policing this, without the benefit of full-fledged police training and firearm handling/education including all the associated laws and new bylaws, well, could cost lives - both public and public service lives.

A bit dramatic, no?
I do hope, however, that they don't waste council time on this when there are so many other pressing problems in town.

Oh they will. Wasting time dealing with issues far outside of their purview is the CoV council's most polished skill.

Then of course complaining about how overworked and underpaid they are.

I was googling and looked at the Fairfield Gonzales Neighbourhood Assoc. page. It states that Isitt was a past director. Has he ever lived in Fairfield?
Note, the FGCA's primary focus lately has been as a provider of childcare services - and the catchment of Sir James Douglas is quite broad and extends towards Fernwood. I imagine his involvement likely stemmed from one or more of his children's attendance at Sir James Douglas Elementary.

So that's where he was going when I saw him riding his bike like a madman a couple of years ago with a kid on the back.

Vanouver and-or Surrey are going this route, I gather, if-when they can. It's a proposed initiative from the feds, to allow municipalities to set their own gun regulations.

Drama? Protect and Serve is not drama! (wink wink).
