Of course, those who actually work, shop, and eat downtown on a daily basis will know that the chances of seeing Lisa Helps out walking around on the street (outside of some special event) are basically ZERO!

Not quite zero.  She walked in front of my car one morning when I was stopped at the light at Blanshard and Cormorant.  I sometimes think wistfully of that moment.

The problem with letters to the editor is that they can literally come from anywhere, and be written by anybody (with or without a personal agenda).

Well, that’s pretty much the case for most newspapers and online forums.

And what’s wrong with having a personal agenda?

Nothing ... as long as you're not an elected politician spending public tax dollars to fulfil it, and further doing so against the express wishes of a very solid majority of tax paying Victoria residents!

Surprised the local pro-Helps astro-turf wasn't effective in rallying the troops to partake in the governance review. After all, they seem pretty willing to put in their two bits on any other issue, while the rest of Victoria is pretty jaded about partaking.

Does anyone know yet if Loveday, Potts, Young or Isitt are running again?

You'd think they'd tell us, 86 days out or whatever it is.

Unless they are trying to stay under the radar and not get dragged into something that might focus on what they have done these past 4 years.

I suppose the smart ones are also spending some money they can legally now, before the spending limit term starts.

Which of the above would you call the smart ones?

No, she was crossing Blanshard at the light.

But there’s no light at Cormorant.

But there’s no light at Cormorant.

And by extension ... no crosswalk.

I think Jim must just be off one block either south or north!

There most certainly is an unmarked crosswalk there as there are sidewalks running perpendicular to Blanshard.

Ahhhh! ... but Jim specifically said she was crossing Blanshard (not Cormorant) :)

Still a crosswalk:

"crosswalk" means

(a)a portion of the roadway at an intersection or elsewhere distinctly indicated for pedestrian crossing by signs or by lines or other markings on the surface, or

(b)the portion of a highway at an intersection that is included within the connection of the lateral lines of the sidewalks on the opposite sides of the highway, or within the extension of the lateral lines of the sidewalk on one side of the highway, measured from the curbs, or in the absence of curbs, from the edges of the roadway;

Not sure I follow?

Nothing on Blanshard indicates a pedestrian crossing (ON Blanshard) at that intersection.

Of course pedestrians always have the right of way, so I suppose there is a strong argument to be made that every intersection, unmarked or marked, would be considered a pedestrian crossing merely by the act of a pedestrian stepping out into the roadway to cross to the other side?

Every intersection has an implied crosswalk whether it’s painted or not.

^ You are correct. They are referred to as “unmarked” crosswalks.
