Everyone talks about the view from the road but nobody ever talks about the view of the road from the water.

Also nobody talks about how it’s less safe for cars? I only bring it up because I know of at least one young person who was impaled and killed while going off the edge in Oak Bay.

Nope knew somebody who heard the scream and saw the aftermath. The railing was just put back to normal.

As long as it doesn't rust and corrode, I think it's fine.

Lot of wire ropes have an oil soaked fibre core. Might be galvanized.

Why not just wire no rail? That being said did take a first aid class with a guy who said he saw a guy get his head taken off by an over tensioned wire breaking on an oil rig.

What’s wrong with a good old fashioned manila rope?

No shortage of cars driving off the edge of Dallas Road. It's funny how Victorians have never really made a fuss about this re: the safety aspect.

Motor Manslaughter Count Faces Boy in Death Crash

Young Jackson was one of four boys in a stolen car which, during a chase by police, raced across Dallas Road at the foot of Cook and plunged to the rocky, log-strewn beach below.

Divers Find Body, Car in Sea 80 Feet Below Dallas Cliffs

A man reported missing a week ago was found yesterday -- dead in his car, underwater in the sea off the foot of Cook Street at Dallas Road -- the result of a spectacular 100-mile-an-hour plunge over an 80-foot cliff.

From the south curb of Dallas at the foot of Cook tire marks in the grass led to the cliff edge above the beach where there was a hole in the gorse.

Police said the car appeared to have sailed into space, probably lit in the water, somersaulted and skidded on its roof underwater to a point about 75 feet from shore.

When this happened is not know, but nothing was noticed until yesterday morning.

When police arrived, they spotted the car's chrome gleaming faintly in 12 feet of water offshore.

Bush Stops Car Inches Short of 100-Foot Fall

Three persons narrowly escaped a 100-foot plunge over a Dallas Road cliff yesterday when their car went out of control and was caught by bush at the cliff edge.

City police, called at 6:50am by a resident at the corner of Dallas and Douglas, tied a rope to the rear bumper of the teetering car before rescuing its occupants.

Beach Plunge Injures Four

Four people were taken to hospital early Sunday morning after a car failed to make the turn from Douglas Street onto Dallas Road and dropped 100 feet over a cliff.

The car mounted the sidewalk and took out a guard rail before dropping over the cliff to the rocky beach.

This is a truly rare opportunity to purchase a stunning waterfront lot that sits on a quiet street in a central location in View Royal. The location is very private and you will feel right at home. This 8195 sq ft lot ( approx 47ft x 174ft ) is mostly level with land on the waterfront side being terraced down to the water. There is a staircase to take you down to your private ramp and dock. The view is absolutely beautiful looking out onto the very serene sheltered cove. The water in the cove is so clear you can see the bottom. When the tide is out you have your own little private beach. Dock and ramp rebuilt in the last few years. There is a foreshore lease for the dock. There is also a public beach with access down at the end of the dead end road. Quick commute to downtown or out to the West Shore. Walking distance to transit.

/\.......Love that neighborhood. My sister and B-I-L lived for several years in the Gibraltar Bay development which abuts it. Seems to fly under many people's radar but the area is a true gem.

I know that place, the owner at the time tried to have you believe that the public access trail was his and would try to discourage you from using it.

Life's a journey......so roll down the window and enjoy the breeze.

Gibraltar Bay might be a best kept secret, but it's worst kept secret was you couldn't leave your home by car between 3 and 6PM if you expected to return within an hour. The interchange oughta help with that when we're back to normal traffic.
