Didn't see a thread on this little gem which we discovered just yesterday on the suggestion of Mrs ASE's hairdresser. Wowza - its a small place just off the corner of Esquimalt and Grenville, i.e. the last right before you hit the Admirals Rd intersection.

They're local folks who specialize in catering but the fare we sampled from the cafe 'front end' was awesome. There is a varied selection of "breakfast" and lunch items and some amazing soups, all made on site. The breakfast burrito was delicious and oh so filling; ditto for the tortellini pasta salad. And the prices are extremely reasonable. Definitely worth checking out.

They're related to the old Bird of Paradise and Goodfellas cigar shop ownership family.  Paul catered our wedding and people are still talking about the food and showmanship.  Like when you walked into the hall, the first thing you saw was chefs flambéing prawns.

You say that like it's a good thing. When I think of Bird of Paradise I think of lousy service, dated decor, failed health reports, bounced cheques and receivership.

And plenty of good times?

^Oh, yes. Many enjoyable hours chatting with my friends in a half-empty restaurant while waiting patiently for our server to show up.

My lawyer wishes to note that any previous information originating from the Times Colonist and and VIHA and reposted here regarding the ownership of the Bird of Paradise Pub is not necessarily related to any other business and no negative inference is suggested or implied.
