Tresah:

A person with this name is a very unique individual. A person that loves to the greatest extent, is faithful in every sense of the word, and tries to make peace with everyone. A person that absolutely loves friendships, hates liars, thieves, and backstabbers. Loves family. Likes to have a lot of fun. Holds back a little when a topic is emotional. Cries when anger turns to rage. All in all....a pretty awesome person!!!!

A rendering of Mike Geric Construction's Tresah development on Speed Avenue near Mayfair Shopping Centre, which will rise as the Capital's first mass timber highrise residential building. Mass timber construction technology will enable more housing to be built, faster, at less cost and with environmentally-friendly materials.

Just noticed there won't be balconies in this building. Is this a limitation of mass timber, or a conscious choice by the builder to not include them?

There are balconies. They are glassed, so it’s not very evident in the renderings.

No balconies in the phase one Tresah East according to the floor plans on the website. This is the six storey building. Only patios on the first floor.

The phase two Tresah West tower looks like it will have balconies though.

Phase one is regular woodframe, I believe, and the tower is mass timber.

The developer is asking for a development permit variance to reduce parking on-site. This goes to CotW on Nov5. Staff report: https://pub-victoria...ocumentId=60120

Tresah.jpg
A rendering of Tresah, a 245-home mass timber-designed condominium project coming soon to Speed and Frances avenues in the Mayfair District of Victoria. The area is part of a comprehensive effort by the City of Victoria and the District of Saanich to densify and modernize the Douglas Street strip between downtown Victoria and Saanich's Uptown area.

North Douglas Street's transformation into high density residential corridor begins with mass timber-built Tresah condos

https://victoria.cit...-tresah-condos/

“Think of north Douglas Street and the Mayfair District as Vancouver’s West 4th and Kitsilano communities before they became the destinations we regard them as today,” says Edward Geric, President of Mike Geric Construction who is spearheading Tresah, one of the largest condominium developments ever conceived north of Bay Street. “The melding of similar interests between Victoria and Saanich along Douglas Street is presenting our city with a clean slate to transform an under-utilized area into a cohesively-planned high density, urban neighbourhood that's ideally located in the region with easy access to downtown, the Western Communities and the Saanich Peninsula by car, transit or bicycle."

Wellllllll I wouldn't go that far Ed - I lived in Kits in the late 80's early 90's and the "north Douglas" area ain't anywhere close to the Kits of even 30 years ago which even then was a social. shopping and entertainment hub especially along West Broadway and 4th Ave. A nice goal perhaps but it has a long long way to go before it achieves it, Tresah or no Tresah. That section of Douglas St is no Broadway and Speed Ave - or especially Burnside - are NO 4th Ave, lol. Regardless IMO this is a nice start.

While I am keen to see greater density along the Douglas Street corridor, I wish it was coming in a form that didn't so much resemble a 21st century update on View Towers.

I think he’s saying the area has the potential to become West 4th, it that it’s West 4th of the 90s today.

it's possible but needs lots of political will.  which won't be easily forthcoming.  from either saanich or victoria quite frankly.

Upper Douglas = car dealerships, large shopping centres, and light industrial uses. 4th Avenue = a commercial village running through a neighbourhood of SFD's and small apartment buildings.

These two areas couldn't be more different from one another.

Vancouver's 4th Avenue neighbourhood is more of a developed Cook Street Village than a transformed Mayfair-Uptown corridor.
