As per the Charter, we have “freedom of expression” (with limits) in Canada, as opposed to the “right of free speech”.

Nothing in the Charter says you have some sort of right to not be shouted at by protesters. You don’t have a right to be heard.

except that certain people will use the power of the government to remove protesters.  for example if you heckle the prime minister

HUH?

2. Everyone has the following fundamental freedoms:

  • (a) freedom of conscience and religion;

  • (bfreedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression, including freedom of the press and other media of communication;

  • (cfreedom of peaceful assembly; and

  • (d) freedom of association.

And when the mob threatens by screaming, pulling fire alarms, setting off bear spray what part exempts them from this...

7. Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of the person and the right not to be deprived thereof except in accordance with the principles of fundamental justice.

and this....

15. (1) Every individual is equal before and under the law and has the right to the equal protection and equal benefit of the law without discrimination and, in particular, without discrimination based on race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, sex, age or mental or physical disability.

I dont see anything in the Charter that says Antifa or any other mob whether left or right or simply nuts have the power to determine what is legal or hate speech etc.

Everyone has the right of free speech, expression and opinion, but we dont have the right to bully, torment, intimidate or threaten. So if you dont agree with something, nobody is stopping you to organize a protest and let people know your position but its pretty ironic when these same folks scream it was hate speech when they themselves are inciting violence and intolerance themselves.

Thinking of the protests against SJA and the OB protest etc where the same people turn up to protest everything it reminds me of what I posted on the CoV thread and its pretty apt for this thread

 “Historians of the future will have a hard time figuring out how so many organized groups of strident jackasses succeeded in leading us around by the nose and morally intimidating the majority into silence.”

^and this is why populations are rushing to support law-and-order-minded politicians. At some point society will have enough of roving violent/intimidating groups deciding who gets to speak and who doesn't, and that point is drawing ever closer with every protest at the hands of the same cast of characters.

The pendulum will always swing back if pushed too far in any one direction.

Whether or not the protestors and 'woke' individuals who support them realize this now, but their actions denying freedoms to those whom they disagree with will eventually lead to less than desired outcomes.

Seems pretty simple to me: It's not 'peaceful' assembly if its violent or if it advocates violence or intolerance!

If protesters are standing around holding signs with non-threatening language and chanting, that's one thing. If they're wearing masks, holding potential weapons, and their signs promote violence... that's not allowed.

Ah yes to the uninitiated that would make sense, but to the truly “Woke” violence can be words, thoughts, opinions, indeed even having white skin can be considered an act of violence. Clearly you need more education

I wonder how many of the 51% who voted "No" have actually reviewed the SOGI materials?

What's your point?  Are you saying someone has tampered with the poll?
