Is it true they depict the post evacuation pet cull? I literally will hate the series if they show soldiers shooting dogs.

I wasn't interesting in this because I would assume it's the usual Hollywood disaster melodrama.
But these comments make me want to see it. I read one Twitter thread by someone who lived in the Soviet Union saying the attention to detail is amazing. Even for things Americans would never pick up on, like the kitchen utensils and the specific little metal buckets citizens used to take out the trash. And that up till the late 80s Saturday was a school day. Tons of stuff like that.

The visuals are uncanny.
The only fault I find is some of the actors have a hint of an England accent.

they said they did not want phoney boris and natasha accents to take away from the film.

the producers said in the opening episode the original script called for a main character to feed his cat. pouring food from the cat food bag. russian script consultants laughed. there was no specific pet food in the soviet union. pets just ate table scraps or home made per food.

the most recent episode they covered that, and how it effects those who did the shooting, you hear the shots, you see the dead but you don't see an animal being directly hit, but you do see a truck emptying a load of animals into a hole being buried in cement...its is a very sad part.. i think the worst was the puppies

they actually filmed additional footage of what they did to the dogs when they ran out of bullets one day. producers decided to scrap those scenes.
episode #4 opens with quite a scene where a young soldier is trying to coax an elderly rural resident (one that is old enough to list off to the young chap all the times and wars she'd been told to leave before going back to the revolution) to take part in the mandatory evacuation. very powerful.

I think that's the best possible way though isn't it? The only other options would be to use an all-Russian cast and subtitle it or make the actors use a Russian "accent" which is always worse (think Sean Connery in Hunt for Red October).

While we are on the subject of Russian accents etc...I would highly recommend McMafia https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6271042/ with James Norton and the Night Manager https://www.imdb.com..._1?ref_=nv_sr_1 with Hugh Laurie and Tom Hiddleston Both are excellent dramas

Yeah, this was a great series.
Here is a short video on the massive containment structure that is seen in the credits.

And for those who can't get enough of all things "nuclear reactor" here is probably the best video showing the inside of a running nuclear reactor. It is the Breazeale Reactor at Penn State University. The video shows reactor startup, crank-up, and shut-down. Very interesting stuff.

Oh yeah, that was neat.
My knowledge of nuclear reactors was, until watching that video, based on Simpson's episodes.

https://en.wikipedia...kolay_Antoshkin
Immediately after the Chernobyl disaster, [Nikolay] Antoshkin carried out a helicopter flyby of the plant on 26 April 1986. Antoshkin organized and led the helicopter group tasked with dropping sand onto the crater of the reactor[5] until 5 May, by which time the fire had been contained.[6] For his leadership, he was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union and the Order of Lenin on 24 December 1986.
Antoshkin died in January 2021 after being treated for COVID-19.

That is just tragic as are all of the deaths from Covid. On a different note, I wonder if our government is also being less than truthful about the delivery of vaccines to Canada. I dont think that lies are the exclusive preserve of the Russians.
