FYI the Dodge site has been taken to construction tender. Relax naysayers, demolished sites dont pay mortgages.

True in the same way Northern Junk was bid again with a new contractor in late summer

There are 2 contractors bidding on Dodge site, Campbell isn't one of them

I was surprised they teamed up, their parent company is working on many projects in town so not sure why they needed the local company

Alright you guys, don’t forget to share the candy!

We’ve seen GCs hire out competing GCs for sub trades before. Sometimes that’s the most efficient way to spread out labour in a tight labour market, maybe?

Ok ok, bidders are:

EllisDon - generally hated in town and everyone I talk to hates them.  Personally I think don't stand a chance to get it.  I'll leave it at that.

ITC Farmer JV - everyone knows Farmer.  ITC built those 2 towers down by fishermans wharf and the Ross Place seniors home.  ITC is owned by Pomerleau which of course built the McKenzie overpass, have the jetty contract on the base and the Colquitz overpass addition on the Trans Canada.

Times have changed, there are several stand alone formwork companies in town now when there wasn't that many years ago.  Years ago if you needed a formwork sub you needed to hire a competing GC like Farmer or Campbell

Thanks!

EllisDon did just finish Mod, across the street from HGV Phase 1, so maybe they’ll have a decent bid.

Campbell was the original GC promoted on fencing at the site.

Ellisdon had nothing to do with Mod, Axiom was the GC

Campbell got the demo contract of the old dealership hence the signage and fencing

Oh gosh, that’s right! My bad.

Do you know who has the contract for The Scene over in Langford, the first tall West Shore highrise between Peatt and Scafe? It was supposed to have gotten underway this month, perhaps it is currently underway but I haven’t been by the site in recent weeks.

developer is acting as their own GC like the Pacific House in Esquimalt.  last I heard Blackrete was doing the concrete, but that was over a year ago

It appears the Harris Green Village website is back up and running, and states that construction will begin in "Fall 2024".

At the very least, work will be underway by early 2025. They estimate occupancy by 2028. It was originally planned to get underway in the fall of 2023.

And we fast-forward to today. This is excellent news for downtown Victoria. This is the largest single-project ever, in terms of housing density, in downtown (maybe even in all of the city-proper?).

Harris Green Village's first two towers will deliver downtown's largest-ever infusion of homes, by 2028

Good news!

I have a real soft spot for that London Drugs.  Hope it stays.
