RCMP end fruitless underwater search in Nelson River for B.C. murder suspects
https://nationalpost...ruitless-search
i wonder why they wouldn’t use fruit. doesn’t that stave off scurvy on long missions?

...I wonder why they wouldn’t use fruit...
Presumably, it was determined fruit wouldn't make good bait.

already a pair of guys was pulled over and forced to lie on the ground at gunpoint. wrong guys.
here is another fresh one and the 7-minute video show it all:
The statement from RCMP indicated the stop was executed by members of the Melfort Traffic Services and Humboldt RCMP, noting officers did conduct a "high risk takedown" with weapons drawn.
Both of the passengers fully complied with the officers and it was quickly determined the two were not the B.C. murder suspects.
"We are aware that a video of this traffic stop was posted to social media," RCMP noted in the statement. "Once again, we thank the driver and passenger of the vehicle for their cooperation and understanding with this matter."
While the couple said they don't really see the resemblance between Shepherd and one of the fugitives, they understand these types of stops have taken place elsewhere in Saskatchewan.

One tidbit I did not realize was that there has only been one charge so far, and it’s for second-degree murder of the older gentleman. They have not been charged with the murders of the American and Australian tourists.

A "significant announcement" is scheduled for noon (PDT) today.
RCMP in Manitoba say they will be making a “significant announcement” regarding the manhunt for the northern B.C. murder suspects in the Gillam, Man. area.
The announcement is scheduled for 2 p.m. CDT and 12 p.m. PDT...

Survivorman and Mantracker believe the pair have long since split.

they don’t have enough physical evidence for that charge yet. the fact that they were driving the older mans car was enough evidence for that charge. I suspect they used or tried to use the couples credit or debit cards. that alone is not enough to prove they killed them. they could have found those items.

And the obligatory follow-up response to a question from the press: RCMP Assistant Commissioner has personal confidence that the bodies are those of the suspects, but cannot make an official statement until their identities are confirmed through the autopsy. Bodies were discovered this morning.

^"Within 1 km" they say.
RCMP:
At 10am this morning, Manitoba RCMP officers located the bodies of two males, believed to be the BC suspects, near the shoreline of the Nelson River (approx 8km from the burnt vehicle)
Our officers knew we needed just one piece of evidence to move the search forward & on Friday, August 2nd, the items found on the shoreline of the Nelson River & directly linked to the suspects, enables officers to narrow down the search.
Specialized RCMP teams begin searching nearby high-probability areas, leading officers to the discovery of the two male bodies, in the dense brush, within 1 km from where the items were found.

police say the investigation is "far from over". but i'm not sure why you want to spend limited police resources to pursue answers to a crime that will never see any perpetrators punished. how does that serve the public interest?
we'll never ever know exactly how this all played out. why spend time chasing a theory that will never be 100% certain to be accurate? it's very sad for all the families involved but i do not think the taxpayers ought to fund more lengthy investigations.

Well for one, the two were not charged with the deaths of the two tourists, so it's probably in the best interest of the RCMP to definitively link the two guys with those murders as well. This case has taken so many twists and turns that who knows, maybe those murders weren't committed by them. Maybe they had help from a still living party? Maybe they killed someone else whose body hasn't been found?
Suspects being deceased is not a good reason to stop an investigation.
