While that is indeed good news for those living north of the city, it blows my mind that in this day and age after all that has been discovered about the sun and "tanning", that any facility dedicated to promoting a healthy lifestyle still offers access to tanning beds, one of those most unhealthy and harmful activities anyone can engage in.

in moderation the harm is little.  and why not just let adults decide?  nobody is forcing them into the tan booth.

most retailers sell cigarettes and from a social health and hygiene point of view they score very very low.

Completely concur. Unfortunately that wasn't my point.

Years ago Fitness World offered up tanning beds but in light of contemporary studies, and plain common sense, when they made the move to Uptown they ditched them due to the fact their use ran completely counter to the business model of an organization whose premise was providing an environment for members to improve their health, not potentially contract cancer.

A quick perusal of any of a few dozen medical site confirms the dangers of these devices; this one will suffice and contains the same messaging as any of the others:

Their premise is the same as any other private business: make money. If having those beds gets them additional members, then...

Those folks are in the 'I want to look good' category, which is probably a significant percentage of folks joining fitness clubs - for some its all about the looks, a vain pursuit outweighing the additional benefit of being healthy.

On the scale of bad things people do, the odd tan or session or a little work ahead of a vacation is perfectly fine.

More people cause themselves serious injury by lifting weights or running on treadmills than those who suffer serious complications from a tanning bad.

Know it all.

Something like pharmacies selling (or not as the case may be) cigarettes.
