So many projects just seemed to have went silent since this new council took over. Like what happen to that project on the corner of Fisgard and Qurdra ... I see the development sign was taken down.

I think it is still happening. I received this in the mail late last week.
It appears the design has changed. The existing structure on the site will no longer be preserved. I think there is a specific thread for this project and I will post this there as well for further discussion.

In exchange for One Victoria Place’s municipal approval, the proponent has offered what is described as a “cash contribution to support a non-profit organization’s off‑site building acquisition for permanent artist studios use,” largely rumoured to be related to an art-deco office building at 780 Blanshard Street owned by the same developer, along with a public event space “with seating to support local events, story telling, performance, projections, and more, contributing to the day-to-day vitality of residents and visitors to the site.”
And
A concept for a mixed-use residential/hotel tower at 780 Blanshard Street that incorporates the restoration of an art-deco office building into hotel rooms and a new-build highrise residential tower above remains before the City. The latter, though, is pending the outcome of a fresh deal that could see the 780 Blanshard Street property change hands in support of local arts groups, as per the mention earlier in this article in regards to One Victoria Place.

Forfeit the 780 Blanshard redevelopment for this tall tower between Pandora and Cormorant? I'd pay money out of my own pocket for the reverse to happen. The south downtown tower was much better looking and an altogether much better fit.

Really? You have never been to the Rockslide Gallery then. That place is a treasure. If we could make that a permanent artist space in return for this new nice building, I would be super happy.

The ground floor off Fairfield has some things that are open more generally. The rest is all studio space for individual artists. They open it all up about 3 times a year for an open house. It is awesome with a couple of bars and DJs and of course tons of amazing art.

They hosted a really cool christmas market/open house as well - it was really neat to wander through the artist studios and pick up a few unique bits and bobs.

Hey, all power to you. I'm not suggesting there isn't an art to all of this. I just felt that 780 Blanshard did a much better job of mixing the media re: the modern tower atop the old podium. Please don't think I'm trying to draw you into an argument. You're allowed to like what you like. You framed your position very well and I respect you for not brushing me off.
Can we agree the blandness of the 1500-block project seems rather sketchy? But if they can incorporate a stroke or two of decorative artistry I would probably feel better about it.
Anyway, I concede that you are much more artful than I am. I tend to be rather artless, I admit.

Nice! I love waking up to a win. From a purely architectural perspective. Just comparing the proposed buildings, sure 780 tops 1520 (though not in height!), but is use, I will happily take 1520 as the one that comes to fruition.
