Methinks the choices they make for the doors and window frames will be critical. If they opt for conventional rather than for character then it would probably seal the deal on the blah factor.

I'm nervous about the "blah factor" as well, particularly the structure at Broad and Johnson. It looks pretty bland in the renderings. I really hope it can be dressed up to blend in better with the older buildings.

Council approved the project at last night's public hearing!

18 months since this was approved. Any signs something might actually happen here?

Hyatt plans to double Canadian hotels by 2026

 

Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, wine country cities and other sites in expansion plans

 

 

Hyatt Centric Victoria – Old Town will be the first Hyatt-branded hotel in Victoria when it opens in 2026. The Chard Development-owned property will offer 135 guest rooms, a restaurant, a bar, a lounge and a coffee shop.

Does this high-res rendering reflect the current concept? If so, I really wish the pillars/dividers on the ground level were distinguished re: style/materials rather than just repeating the brick cladding.

The Duck's Building facade (dating from 1892) awaiting further decisions, I guess. 

 

From what I can tell from the city's development tracker, it looks like this was on the agenda of a Feb. 11 meeting re: a Heritage Alteration Permit, ahead of consideration of requested rezoning and other variances.
