My God, you're right. I can't believe it. Why embarrass yourself by sucking up to that group only to end up with a guaranteed rejection?

Ha. As opposed to the dignified, serious campaign RyMo would've had if hadn't tried to get on the tv ticket? ;)

^Well, yeah, it seems like he's going out of his way to get the worst of both worlds.

Then perhaps TV is the right fit for him.

Is there a fresh set of nude photos specifically for the by-election?

I’m watching the council meeting. Sarah Potts hardly says anything. She may as well not be there. She just raises her hand when Ben does. It’s pretty disappointing. Regarding TV - are they planning dominance in Victoria or something?

Maintaining dominance would be more accurate. Keep in mind that "Benemy" are in essence 2 additional TV members.

Staff proposing by-election dates of either March 14th or April 18th. Estimated cost between $140K to $360K.

As I speculated right after the election, having the Mayor as the tie-breaker works well for a lot of people. Wouldn't at all be surprised if it takes until April to get the election done.

Out of all of them she's by far the most disappointing. She reads blandly off of her script and hardly even looks up when she wants to talk.

I've seen some pretty varied estimates of how much the byelection is going to cost us all... does anyone have a solid figure?

$140,000 to $170,000 for a "modified election process" (only four polling stations on election day, but more advance voting opportunities) versus $320,000 to $360,000 for a "standard election process" (12 polling stations). See the staff report at https://pub-victoria...ocumentId=48163

Councillors will decide this Thursday which one to use.

I imagine council will want to ensure there are polling stations at UVic and Our Place at least.

Because having half the Polling places where 95% of the resident voters are not makes so much sense.

Which is likely why staff include advance polling at City Hall only in both of the options proposed. But yes, we'll see what motions are made and supported at the Council table.

The proximity of Our Place to City Hall seems to render using Our Place as a polling station as a very marginal use of resources.  I get why its done, however, there are alternatives that make far more sense, that are far more welcoming to a far broader cross section of those eligible to vote.  Why not Christ Church Cathedral, why not Crystal Pool, why not the Vic West Y.  If there's only 4 polling stations, its important they be broadly accessible (ie. with good options for parking, not intimidating to the average voter).  Even in terms of Advance Polling, I would think Crystal Pool or the arena would be more accessible than City Hall.

My one beef with the police is this morning on Burdett by the cathedral, there were three or four cops in two vehicles ticketing drivers who turned left from Quadra onto Burdett. When Vancouver street is blocked off, that turn will suddenly become legal. Seems like a waste of manpower. They were there when I left for my appt on Wharf St. (traffic was crazy and thankfully someone let my husband into the jam) and they were still there when we returned, about an hour later.

Sorry, I guess this is the wrong thread.

Committee of the Whole has approved the scaled-down byelection, scheduled for March 14. Nobody was opposed, so Council will probably give final approval tonight.

Now it's March 14th, but wasn't it slated for February?

March 14th coincides with a lot of people being away for Spring Break, for gosh sake. Will there be advanced voting opportunities?
