Some Canadian Pastors Are Waging a Holy War Against COVID-19 Lockdowns
An Albertan pastor has been in police custody for over two weeks because he won't accept bail conditions that would require him to preach to a limited crowd, and churches are leaping to his defence.

MOSCOW, March 5. /TASS/. A group of Russian scientists, led by Gamaleia Research Institute lead researcher Vladimir Guschin, examined the coronavirus particles survivability on various surfaces and discovered that, in most cases, they become unviable in 2 to 6 hours. Their research was published at the bioRxiv online library.
"Our research […] indicates that coronavirus particles can stay on many materials for tens of hours. The virus’ presence in itself, however, does not mean that the surface is dangerous for humans or could act as a source of infection," the researchers said.
The scientists tested five different surface materials: SARS-CoV-2 particles were administered to ceramics, metal, wood, fabric and plastic. The virus and the materials were stored in common lab conditions.

Only eight African countries out of more than 50 have a compulsory system to register deaths, a BBC investigation has found.
This is not just a failure of the state to recognise individual tragedies but has enormous implications for the making of government policy.
All but two countries in Europe - Albania and Monaco - have a universal death registration system, and in Asia, just over half, analysis of UN data shows.
But in Africa it is only Egypt, South Africa, Tunisia, Algeria, Cape Verde, São Tomé and Príncipe, Seychelles and Mauritius that have what are called functioning, compulsory and universal civil registration systems - known as CRVS systems - which record deaths.
All of the countries surveyed by the BBC, working with researchers from the UN's Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), do have some sort of death registration.
But it is often on paper and not available in a shareable digitised form. The information may be used in a local area but cannot calculate mortality trends on a national level.

WASHINGTON (March 4, 2021)--Over the next month, 209 U.S. counties in the United States will need to implement crisis workforce strategies to deal with potentially dangerous shortfalls of intensive care unit doctors, according to a new analysis published today. The analysis draws on data from a just launched county-level hospital workforce estimator, one that takes into account the strain on staffing due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"The shortages could occur just as public health officials warn that variants of the coronavirus are spreading in the United States and could trigger a sharp rise in the number of Americans infected," Clese Erikson, the principal investigator on the project and deputy director of the Health Equity Workforce Research Center at the George Washington University, said. "Our new online estimator will help county and local public health officials project shortages in the near future and take steps to help keep staffing at safe levels."
The analysis shows that ICU doctors in those 209 counties will be taking care of more than 24 severely ill patients at one time. Typically, an ICU doctor will care for half that number of patients or less at the same time--and, at 24 or higher, hospitals will have to quickly organize and train non-ICU providers to step in and help provide care.

But firefighters in multiple states said the vaccine prioritizations and the pandemic overall exposed a startling misunderstanding of — or lack of concern for — their role in the medical system.
“They don’t really understand what we went through and what we do,” said Dupin.
Of the country’s more than 29,705 fire departments, 45% provided basic life support services, while an additional 17% provided advanced life support services, according to a 2018 report from the National Fire Protection Association. Firefighters respond to car crashes, hazardous materials spills, mass trauma incidents, rescues and far more medical calls than fire calls. In 2018, fire departments received more than 36.7 million calls, according to the association’s data. Less than 2 million were for fires, while more than 23.5 million were for medical aid.
“We are the tip of the spear,” said Gary Ludwig, fire chief in Champaign, Illinois, and immediate past president of the International Association of Fire Chiefs. “We are health care providers on a truck.”
