The experts are saying 60-90% of the total population needs immunity for covid to die off. If we are not going to reach herd immunity, then we need to rethink our strategy.

B.C. recorded 185 new cases of COVID-19 Wednesday, up from 150 the day before, as a regional outbreak was declared for the Central Okanagan with mask orders for public indoor spaces returning on Thursday.

Serious illness from COVID-19 remains low, with 47 people in hospital Wednesday, up from 44 in the past 24 hours, and 20 in intensive care, down from 22 on Tuesday. There were three more coronavirus-related deaths reported July 28, all in the Vancouver Coastal health region, for a total of 1,771 since the pandemic began in early 2020.

There are 909 active cases province-wide, up from 783 in the past 24 hours, with most of them being found in the Interior Health region. There are no new outbreaks in the B.C. health care system.

The world's first aerosolized inhaled adenovirus type-5 vector-based COVID-19 vaccine (Ad5-nCoV), jointed developed by CanSino Biologics (CanSinoBIO) and researchers from the Institute of Military Medicine under the Academy of Military Sciences led by Chen Wei, was proven safe in Phase-I clinical trials, the Global Times learned from CanSinoBIO on Wednesday.
 
The trial showed that two doses of aerosol Ad5-nCoV was well tolerated, without causing any vaccine-related serious adverse events, CanSinoBIO said.
 
The trial found that an aerosolized booster vaccination taken 28 days after the first intramuscular injection "induced strong IgG and neutralizing antibody responses," said the report of the trial, which was published on The Lancet Infectious Diseases on Monday.
 
The Phase-I trial result was the world's first released clinical data on aerosolized inhaled Ad5-nCoV vaccines. Phase-II clinical studies of the vaccine are ongoing, CanSinoBIO told the Global Times on Wednesday.

In response to the ongoing SARS-CoV-2 infections in the United Kingdom, the COVID-19 Genomics UK (COG-UK) consortium was formed to rapidly sequence SARS-CoV-2 genomes as part of a national-scale genomic surveillance strategy.
 
The new bioinformatics software and cloud computing approach developed at the University of Birmingham has been tagged as the world's most sophisticated COVID-19 sequencing system. Called CLIMB-COVID, the sequencing tool was designed to handle the enormous challenge of sequencing SARS-CoV-2 genomes.
 
In a new research paper, published in the journal Genome Biology, the scientists discussed the development and deployment of CLIMB-COVID, an encompassing digital structure to address the challenge of collecting and integrating both genomic sequencing data and sample-associated metadata produced across the COG-UK network. This includes a network of universities, regional sequencing centers, academic institutions, and the four UK Public Health Agencies.

In case one unprecedented, world-shaking pandemic wasn't enough, a lot of people in rich countries think there will be more.
 
That's according to new polling from the Center for American Progress, completed by Global Progress and YouGov. They surveyed 11,433 adults in the G7 countries — the US, UK, France, Germany, Japan, Canada, and Italy — along with Australia ahead of 2021's G7 summit.
 
In every single country, the majority of respondents think it's likely that there will be "another pandemic on the scale of COVID-19" in the next decade. Americans were the least concerned, with just 54% of respondents thinking it was likely, compared to a total average of 61%. The French, however, were the most worried: 73% of respondents think it's likely.

Three of the infected are athletes living in the Olympic Village. This brings the total number of coronavirus cases among those involved in the Games to 198.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia reported more than 17,000 new COVID-19 cases for the second straight day on Thursday (Jul 29), with the number of critically ill patients also reaching a new high.

The 17,170 new infections - the country’s second highest daily tally to date - comes one day after a record 17,405 cases were announced on Wednesday.
 
The Klang Valley accounted for about half of the new cases, with 7,163 in Selangor and 2,138 in Kuala Lumpur.
 
The number of cases in Kedah and Johor remained high with 1,212 and 1,054 respectively. A further 884 were found in Negeri Sembilan and 776 in Sabah.
 
The health ministry said 49.4 per cent of the new cases were asymptomatic and 48.3 per cent only experiencing mild symptoms.
 
Most of the new cases were also not vaccinated, it added.

Australia's biggest city Sydney posted a record one-day rise in local COVID-19 cases on Thursday and warned the outbreak would get worse, as authorities sought military help to enforce a lockdown of six million people poised to enter its sixth week.
 
Australia has struggled to contain an outbreak of the highly infectious delta variant in and around Sydney in recent weeks, which threatens to push the country's $2-trillion (Australian) ($1.85-trillion) economy into its second recession in as many years.
 
Despite an extended lockdown of Sydney, the state capital, New South Wales recorded 239 locally acquired cases in the past 24 hours, the biggest daily rise since the pandemic began.
 
"We can only assume that things are likely to get worse before they get better given the quantity of people infectious in the community," New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian told reporters in Sydney.

Berejiklian said one more person had died from COVID-19, taking the death toll from the current outbreak to 13 and the overall national total to 921.

With little sign that recent restrictions are reducing case numbers, Berejiklian said new curbs would be imposed on the southwestern and western areas of Sydney where the majority of COVID-19 cases are being found.

More than two million residents in eight Sydney hotspots will now be forced to wear masks outdoors and must stay within five kilometres of their homes.

Federal officials tried to downplay a COVID-19 outbreak at a child migrant facility earlier this year, according to two whistleblowers. 
 
The Government Accountability Project filed a whistleblower complaint on Wednesday on behalf of Arthur Pearlstein and Lauren Reinhold, two career federal civil servants who volunteered at the Fort Bliss Emergency Intake Site between April and June this year. Xavier Becerra, a Biden appointee, had taken over the Department of Health and Human Services at this time.
 
According to the report, hundreds of children contracted the coronavirus in the overcrowded conditions of the facility, and the virus spread to many workers as well. Adequate masks were not consistently provided or enforced, Pearlstein and Reinhold reported.
 
Meanwhile, "every effort was made to downplay" the outbreak, the report said.
 
"At a 'town hall' meeting with detailees, a senior US Public Health Service manager was asked and refused to say how many were infected because 'if that graph [of infections] is going to The Washington Post every day, it's the only thing we'll be dealing with and politics will take over, perception will take over, and we're about reality, not perception,'" the report said.

In May, radical right-wing conspiracy theorist Rick Wiles declared that he would never accept any COVID-19 vaccine because the vaccines were part of a plot to carry out “global genocide.” In June, Wiles spent several days in the hospital battling a COVID-19 infection that spread widely throughout his staff and family.
 
Upon recovering from the infection and returning to his nightly “TruNews” program, Wiles naturally began to spread conspiracy theories about how he been infected and continues to do so, using his program Tuesday night to blame people who have been vaccinated against COVID-19 for his infection. The vaccines, he said, were “satanic serum.”
 
In Wiles’ telling, the highly contagious Delta variant of the COVID-19 virus does not really exist but is merely a cover for an illness that is being spread by those who have been vaccinated. In Wiles’ view, it was not his refusal to get vaccinated that resulted in his infection, but rather it was someone who got vaccinated that was responsible for spreading the infection to him.
 
“You’ve got people who are vaccinated who are shedding the virus, infecting other people, walking around thinking they are protected and yet they are the ones who are spreading the virus to other people,” Wiles said. “I don’t think that there is a variant called Delta. I think it’s a name that they gave the public to explain the explosion of infections caused by the vaccinated people.”
 
“We’re witnessing for the first time in human history global genocide, compliments of the Church of Satan,” Wiles said later in the program. “The Communist Party is the political arm of the Church of Satan. These people that are running the world are Satanists. They’re killing off massive numbers of people.”

This is an old and pointless statement already...  Can't believe this is still circling.  As case numbers rise, inevitably hospitalizations and deaths increase as well as does more spread and the cycle continues.

while that's generally true with each new wave of cases the deaths associated are lesser and lesser.  we can easily see that in the charts above.  and that law carries for every single country.  or at least every country that is vaccinating.

 

 

so in canada:

 

the first wave had relatively few cases, compared to the next two waves.  only 1/3 as high as the next two waves.  but deaths were very high - in fact the highest.

 

then the second wave was the highest cases but the deaths were not higher than the first wave.

 

then the third wave was nearly as high cases as the second but deaths were way down - dropped nearly 50%.

D.C. will again require masks indoors — even for people who are fully vaccinated — amid a troubling rise in COVID-19 cases and new information on the spread of the delta variant. 

 

Additionally, District officials are working to create a vaccination requirement for D.C. government employees. 

Masks will be required indoors in D.C. for all people over 2 starting at 5 a.m. Saturday, July 31, Mayor Muriel Bowser announced at a news conference Thursday.

 

“We will continue to do what is necessary to keep D.C. safe,” the mayor said.
