Northern Health is still lagging far behind the rest of BC in its vaccination rate.

^Same reason the NDP wouldn't do it. Can't risk losing valuable union support.

The Greater Victoria School District board is waiting for more information before deciding whether a vaccine mandate for staff is the best path forward.

Following guidelines released by the provincial government on Friday, SD61 is starting by gathering data on vaccination rates in staff, privacy concerns and what impact a mandate could have on employee retention.

During Monday’s board meeting (Oct. 25), trustees were told staff vaccination rates are estimated at between 92 and 97 per cent, according to chair Ann Whiteaker. She said the number brings two questions to mind: how much of an impact would a mandate have on students’ overall safety if vaccination rates are already so high? And, would a mandate convince those unvaccinated to do so or would it push them to quit?

Do we really have to wait 377 years for the numbers to decline?

I find it rather concerning that as of yesterday, BC's number of people hospitalized is at its highest number ever. The number of hospitalizations, rather than number of cases, is perhaps the most accurate measurement of how bad things actually are in the community. Yet, we are really opening most things up totally.

In fairness, the government may have simply decided that we can not afford to remain closed. Vaccination has been available to almost everyone and the old and infirm need to protect themselves as best as possible,

Without age and co-morbidity information the hospitalization and death stats are meaningless.

I may have misread the news article, perhaps it was referring to ICU;s, But I stand corrected.

As an old guy I still find the numbers disconcerting.

Would you be as concerned if you learned that all the ICU patients were unvaccinated, 20-somethings? I appreciate that this is not likely the case, but the raw numbers alone really don't tell us much of anything. As a nearly old guy myself, I refuse to get too worried.

Ok so it looks like 4090 workers, not 6000 like the Kamloops paper reported.

These are Ontario numbers. Nevertheless, they still don't inform me regarding co-morbidities and that is critical to understanding hospitalizations.

In actuality, about a quarter of both hospital and ICU are fully vaccinated and I suspect are mostly rather old guys like me. So if you are a senior still remember to stay as safe as possible.

While I am not yet a senior, my salad days are certainly well behind me. And even though I am not reckless with my health, shutting myself up in my home 24/7, in some sort of "pre-coffin" state isn't how I want to live.

It is dangerous to be unvaccinated right now — especially in Alberta, where vaccination rates are almost 10 percentage points lower than the national average.

Despite making up just over a third of the population (including kids under 12), unvaccinated — or diagnosed within two weeks from the first immunization date — people made up almost 85 per cent of cases, 85 per cent of hospitalized cases and 77 per cent of COVID-19 deaths in the province since Jan. 1, 2021.

Unvaccinated Albertans were more than 12 times as likely to die from COVID-19 over the last four months than fully vaccinated Albertans. Real world vaccine data indicates that two doses of the approved vaccines are 90 per cent effective at preventing infection.

Since the beginning of 2021, less than one per cent of fully vaccinated Albertans have been diagnosed with COVID-19 14 days after the second immunization date. Vaccines work. Yet not everyone in the province seems convinced.

Why won’t people in Alberta get vaccinated?

On Saturday, the NHL team put star Patrick Kane, fellow forward Ryan Carpenter and defenceman Erik Gustafsson in protocols. Carpenter and Gustafsson were released on Sunday, the same day forward Jujhar Khaira and blue-liner Riley Stillman were added.

Kane, Stillman and Khaira missed Sunday's loss to the Detroit Red Wings, as did assistant coach Marc Crawford.

Brazil's Senatorial Committee (CPI) investigating President Jair Bolsonaro's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic Tuesday recommended the head of state be prosecuted for “crimes against humanity” and that he is denied access to social media for having spread false information about the disease.

The CPI Tuesday approved a report recommending Bolsonaro's indictment for serious “crimes against humanity” for how he managed the COVID-19 pandemic and asked to suspend the president's access to social media for having posted false information about an ailment that has caused 605,000 deaths nationwide.

The text submitted by CPI's rapporteur Renan Calheiros last week was endorsed by 7 out of 11 Senators. In addition to Bolsonaro, the document says 77 other people should be prosecuted, including several current and former cabinet members as well as three of the president's children.

After Tuesday's approval following a six-month inquiry, the report is to be handed over to the Supreme Federal Court (STF), to the Brazilian Prosecutor's Office and the International Criminal Court in The Hague.

The CPI also asked the STF and the Attorney General's Office to suspend Bolsonaro's access to his YouTube, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram until further notice, for having spread false information last week in a live stream during which the head of state-linked anticovid vaccination with AIDS. The video was later removed from Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. The video platform also decided to suspend Bolsonaro's channel for a week.

The text, presented by the vice president of the Parliamentary Investigation Commission (CPI), Senator Randolfe Rodrigues, calls for “the precautionary suspension” of Bolsonaro's access to his accounts “to avoid the destruction of evidence.”

Bolsonaro, a sceptic of distancing measures and anticovid antigens, mentioned last Thursday the existence of false information that says that there are official reports from the UK government that “suggest” that those fully vaccinated are developing AIDS “much faster than anticipated,” something which the British government has denied to be true.

Former US President Donald Trump announced his endorsement on Tuesday evening of Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, who just hours before had criminal charges recommended against him by a Brazilian Senate committee for his pandemic response.

"President Jair Bolsonaro and I have become great friends over the past few years. He fights hard for, and loves, the people of Brazil — just like I do for the people of the United States," wrote Trump in a statement.

"Brazil is lucky to have a man such as Jair Bolsonaro working for them. He is a great President and will never let the people of his great country down!"

On the same day, seven senators of an 11-member Brazilian senate commission voted to recommend nine charges against Bolsonaro, including crimes against humanity and charlatanism.

British Labour Party Leader Keir Starmer Contracts Coronavirus
https://sputniknews....1090245032.html

COVID-19 cases, hospitalisations and deaths have been rising in the UK, pressurising a health service that’s already working hard to treat the backlog of non-COVID patients that have accumulated since March 2020.

While some modellers suggest that cases have peaked and are now set to fall, the overall number of new infections isn’t the only trend to pay attention to. More cases in older age groups and rising hospitalisations are causes for concern, with both possibly driven by two other worrying trends: waning immunity and the vaccine booster programme rolling out too slowly.

The government is taking notice, holding a COVID press conference in response to the recent rise in cases, but is yet to change course. Its strategy for controlling COVID currently still depends mainly on vaccination.

It is resisting calls for the stricter “plan B” control measures, outlined in its COVID winter plan, to be implemented now. These measures include, in certain situations, introducing vaccine certificates and reintroducing mandatory face coverings, together with suggesting that people work from home.

But looking closely at the current data, the plan B measures – or even other, more effective steps – seem inevitable in the coming weeks and months.

An unintended consequence of the tightening curbs - accompanied by appeals to wear masks, observe social distancing and get vaccinated - has been a sharp increase in foreign travel bookings to destinations where Russia's flagship Sputnik V is recognised or where COVID entry requirements are cheap and easy.

WASHINGTON: Merck & Co has signed a licensing agreement with the United Nations-backed Medicines Patent Pool (MPP) that will allow more companies to manufacture generic versions of its experimental oral antiviral COVID-19 treatment, the United States drugmaker and the organisation announced on Wednesday (Oct 27).

Merck said that the royalty-free licence would apply to 105 low- and middle-income countries. It allows manufacturers selected by MPP to make generic versions of molnupiravir, the antiviral pill Merck has developed with Ridgeback Biotherapeutics.

The US Food and Drug Administration is considering emergency use authorisation of the medicine, which was shown in a clinical trial to halve the risk of serious disease and death when given early for COVID-19.

"This is the first transparent, public health-driven voluntary licence for a COVID-19 medical technology," Merck and MPP said in a joint statement.

For the rest of your days. have fun with that. You see the issue? You can either accept the risk has been minimized practically as much as possible, and move on with your life, or you can stay shut in and effectively waste the remaining years you have.
