How would you know what goes on in restaurants?

They have windows.

I don’t think I’m bulletproof, only that I have done the best I can to protect myself from severe illness. I have no noticeable side effects from the vaccine like 99.9% of those that have taken it. Now my life goes on as close to it was as possible.

The vaccinated seem to think they're some bullet proof machine.
In restaurants, no masks, touching everything.

The only real difference is you can sit in a restaurant, mask less...and I can't.

I would rather be the guy on the outside looking in anyway.

My life goes on as close to possible as it was before as well.

Then I wish you well and hope for the best for you and your family. One of my good friends also has chosen to not be vaccinated. I respect his choices and will still enjoy a drink with him. I would have no problem sitting down for one with you as well. We likely have much more in common than our vax status would suggest.

It also needs an ominous name...

An anagram for omicron is moronic.

Time will tell.... Has there been any variant that has been bad besides Delta?

"We've seen some other variants like this in the past that had us concerned — beta, I think, would be the best example — and it didn't really take off. It basically just got creamed by delta. And I think we still don't know the answer as to how this is going to go for omicron."

___________

Some of omicron's mutations have been associated with increased transmissibility, similar to alpha and delta, she said, while others have been associated with higher immune evasion, like with beta and gamma. And she notes delta has so far dominated all other variants.

Certainly more contagious.  I would think lead to more deaths, I'm not sure I've seen a breakdown to variants...  But Delta has been the only big one right?

Henry said 99.6 per cent of cases in B.C. remain the Delta strains AY 25 and AY 27, with a smattering of AY 4.2 — dubbed the Delta variant plus. Whether Omicron will out- compete Delta in this province is unknown at this point, she said.

For almost a full day, Romana Didulo, the so-called QAnon Queen of Canada, didn't post on Telegram. Many of her 70,000 followers were overcome with worry.

Some said they couldn't sleep, others speculated about why she hadn't posted—including "Queen Romana is on her way to the nuclear sub"— while others felt this was the day that Didulo would finally declare victory in her fight to end vaccinations. And so it was a relief to many when the QAnon influencer returned with the promise of a livestream.

Over the 75-minute stream Monday night, she claimed to her followers (4,000 of whom tuned in live) that she was visited by an RCMP team who executed a search warrant, seized several electronic devices, and took her in for a psych evaluation. She said she was interviewed by a doctor, and released.

"I had known what was coming before it even happened,” she told her followers. “So, there we are, all are glad to see that Queen Romana is not insane and was cleared by the psychiatrist at that hospital.”

The RCMP’s alleged visit came shortly after Didulo wrote a post encouraging followers to “shoot to kill anyone who tries to inject Children under the age of 19 years old with Coronavirus19 vaccines/ bioweapons or any other Vaccines.” The post was reported on by VICE World News and the Canadian Anti-Hate Network and was removed by Telegram because “it contains calls to violence.”

RCMP told VICE World News that they “are not in a position to confirm” Didulo’s claims of being picked up, because they will only offer such confirmation in situations where criminal charges have been laid. In her video, Didulo mentioned an RCMP officer by name, and flashed a card given to her. VICE World News was able to confirm the officer does work for the RCMP. Didulo also showed a document in the livestream that is consistent with an RCMP search warrant.

*snip*

Extremism researcher Amarnath Amarasingam told VICE World News that Didulo “unfortunately, has to be taken seriously.” He said if Didulo’s claims about the RCMP are true, it’s not the normal approach authorities usually use with extremists in Canada.

“I can’t think of a single instance in Canada when Form 10 (being brought in for a psych eval) was used on an individual suspected of being an extremist,” said Amarasingam. “The debate about the intersection between extremism and mental health is of course vibrant, and there are no clear answers. But, I’ve never seen a Form 10 used for these kinds of cases before.”

He added that he thinks there is “ample evidence in her online posts to support a counselling charge (essentially pushing someone to commit a criminal offence) if the authorities wanted to go that route.” Other extremism researchers noted this to VICE World News as well. RCMP didn’t answer when VICE asked if charges are forthcoming.

Can long Covid kill? Striking findings presented in a new study published to Frontiers in Medicine show that patients who survive severe Covid-19 have more than twice the risk of dying over the following year, compared with those who experience mild or moderate disease or remain uninfected.

Unusually, the increased risk of dying was greater for patients who are under 65, and only 20% of the severe Covid-19 patients who died did so because of typical Covid complications, such as clotting disorders or respiratory failure. The study suggests that severe Covid-19 may significantly damage long-term health and highlights the importance of preventing severe disease through vaccination.

The reason some people get COVID-19, face hospitalization and die may have more to do with underlying health conditions, where they were born, live and work, and their access to testing and care, according to a new Rutgers study.
Published in the Journal of Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities, the study examined whether health disparities in populations most impacted by COVID-19 were the result of higher exposure rates to the virus or the social determinants that are known to impact health, wellbeing and quality of life.

study of the day

Chinese scientists claim to have isolated an antibody which can effectively neutralize all strains of Covid-19, referencing both lab experiments and those performed on a living organism.

In a study published on Tuesday, Chinese scientists from a variety of institutions, including Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou and Zhejiang University in Hangzhou, suggested that they may have the panacea to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The authors claim that monoclonal antibody 35B5 has been shown in both in vitro (laboratory or test-tube experiment) and in vivo (performed on living organism) studies to neutralize wild-type Covid-19 (without mutations) as well as variants of concern (VOCs). The in vivo tests were carried out on humanized mice.

The scientists noted that the antibody also works on the highly mutated Delta variant, which has been responsible for deadly waves of infection around the world since it first emerged in India earlier this year.

“35B5 neutralizes SARS-CoV-2 [Covid-19] by targeting a unique epitope [part of the antigen molecule which the antibody attaches itself to] that avoids the prevailing mutation sites,” the study explains. In other words, 35B5 targets a unique part of the virus that does not change during the mutation process.

Geneva – The International Organization for Migration (IOM) today launched its flagship World Migration Report 2022 which reveals a dramatic increase in internal displacement due to disasters, conflict and violence at a time when global mobility ground to a halt due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.

"We are witnessing a paradox not seen before in human history,” said IOM's Director General António Vitorino. “While billions of people have been effectively grounded by COVID-19, tens of millions of others have been displaced within their own countries.”

The number of air passengers globally dropped 60 per cent in 2020 to 1.8 billion (down from 4.5 billion in 2019) while at the same time internal displacement due to disaster, conflict and violence rose to 40.5 million (up from 31.5 million in 2019).

The report, the eleventh in IOM’s World Migration Report series, draws upon the latest data from around the world to explain key migration trends as well as issues that are emerging on the migration policy horizon.

"This report is unlike any other edition of the World Migration Report,” said the IOM report editor Marie McAuliffe.

“So much has happened in migration and mobility over these last two years and in this report we bring together key data, research and analysis to show how long-term trends have been altered by COVID-19 and how migrants worldwide have been affected."

According to the report, the number of international migrants has grown from 84 million globally in 1970 to 281 million in 2020, although when global population growth is factored in, the proportion of international migrants has only inched up from 2.3 per cent to 3.6 per cent of the world’s population. Most people globally (96.4 per cent) reside in the country in which they were born. The number of international migrants for 2020 was lower, by around 2 million, than it otherwise would have been due to COVID-19.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) - US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin issued a memorandum ordering the withholding of pay to members of the National Guard that refuse to get vaccinated for the novel coronavirus disease.

"No Department of Defense funding may be allocated for payment of duties performed under title 32 for members of the National Guard who do not comply with Department of Defense COVID-19 vaccination requirements," Austin said in the memorandum on Tuesday.

National Guardsmen opposing vaccination will also be marked absent without cause from drills and training, which means they will not get credit for service time, the memorandum said.

The new policy must be imposed no later than December 6, the memorandum said, adding that vaccination is essential to the health and readiness of the US armed forces.

Donald Trump tested positive for Covid-19 three days before his first debate against Joe Biden, the former president’s fourth and last chief of staff has revealed in a new book.

Mark Meadows also writes that though he knew each candidate was required “to test negative for the virus within seventy two hours of the start time … Nothing was going to stop [Trump] from going out there.”

Trump, Meadows says in the book, returned a negative result from a different test shortly after the positive.

Nonetheless, the stunning revelation of an unreported positive test follows a year of speculation about whether Trump, then 74 years old, had the potentially deadly virus when he faced Biden, 77, in Cleveland on 29 September – and what danger that might have presented.

Trump announced he had Covid on 2 October. The White House said he announced that result within an hour of receiving it. He went to hospital later that day.

Estimated 550,000 60+ Greeks have yet to get vaxxed...  That will be a quick way to get the struggling health system back in order getting 55M Euros per month...  9 in 10 Greeks who have died of Covid are over 60,  7 in 10 who are intubated are in that age group...  1st country to do this so will have to see how this goes over.

UK is just allowing people to take a booster earlier, this is the minimum time.  If someone chooses to do that you are ok with that..  It's a choice to get it earlier, before those stricken with fear had to wait 6 months.  It's just news, not bad or good, except it's good if you want a booster earlier.
