This is going to be an AirBnB-style hotel. I’m curious how this will all work out.

Approved as proposed, or approved at half the height?

What happen?

I think it will be approved...

Nothing has been approved yet. KK believes the project will be approved based on the retention of the adjacent Montrose apartment building. I was just wondering if he felt that approval would be for the tower in its current proposed form or in some sort of shorter version.

Apparently this was approved last night. I am pretty excited to see this on the skyline!

Victoria is expecting its first new hotel in about two decades.

Councillors have approved a project by developer Merchant House Capital to build a triangular-shaped tower at the corner of Fort and Blanshard streets that would house a 20-storey hotel and commercial and office spaces.

Hotel plans call for 128 units with kitchenettes and flexible living spaces suited to working travellers and long-term visitors.

Will that first new hotel not be Chard's/UVic's Hyatt?

This was approved at the public hearing on Nov 4 (not last night- there were no meetings yesterday due to the holiday).

Thank you for clarifying. I was surprised council would hold a meeting on Remembrance Day.

I am really surprised this was approved without more of a fight.

There's really no residential immediately next to it.  That probably helped.

Anyone know what's happening with this? 2.5 months since it was approved and it looks like business as usual at the site.

I took a closer look and that glass atrium/lobby will look really cool at street level!

Per this article, the existing Monk Office business is expecting to move to the newly-acquired Island Blue site in late 2023, so I suspect that we won't see any action on the hotel until that time (or later).  It might simply be a case of honouring the existing business leases on the site.  See https://www.timescol...mpanies-4945506

Montrose Wintergarden. Where is that in the process?

What is the status on this project?

It's approved. A few tenants have disappeared from the retail spaces.

I’ll be sad to see the Ditch Records building torn down. It’s a really neat little building.

Ditch intends to find another site, smaller scale, preferably in the same area. I was happy to hear that. It would be terrible to lose them.
