You’d actually think with the Air BnB ban the economic climate for a hotel would be good.

In addition to the Victoria Press Building, however, Timbercreek also filed a receivership application in December 2024 against Merchant House Capital’s Blanshard Block project at 780 Fort Street and 1106-1114 Blanshard Street, which they acquired in 2018. The properties make up the entire block on the west side of Blanshard Street between Fort Street and View Street and Merchant House has received approval for a 20-storey mixed-use hotel project referred to as Montrose-Wintergarden.

A high-profile downtown Victoria property once slated for a major hotel development is now up for sale under a court-ordered process after the project fell into receivership.

The “Blanshard Block,” a three-property lot at the corner of Blanshard and Fort streets, is now listed on Colliers at $9.8 million.

The listing includes the Montrose Apartments along with two adjacent commercial properties known as the Wintergarden buildings, with the entire property spanning roughly 0.4 acres in the city’s downtown core.

I would sue the asses off of Mayor Elvira Gulch and her protege Mayor of Munchkin Land and their councils.  They have cost the city and region MILLIONS.

Sue for what? The project was approved. Meanwhile, other developers are trying to do much better work at Quadra and Fort and on the Christ Church block and the city is giving them grief for it.
