Malahat SkyWalk is marking its fifth year in operation — and the prospect of its one-millionth visitor — with the launch of its newest attraction on the May long weekend.
The Overhang is the first enclosed glass cube in the world to be attached to the top of a spiral tower, it says.
Suspended off the top platform 250 metres above sea level, it’s designed with thrill-seekers in mind.
The glass cube will extend 2.13 metres off the summit edge and “deliver an unmistakable rush from the very first step,” the company said.
Built with a steel support frame and five panels of structural glass, it was developed by Vancouver-based Aspect structural engineers, which designed the unique corkscrew design of the SkyWalk’s Spiral Tower.
Each panel is made up of multiple layers of glass (three on the walls and five on the floor) that have been bound together.
The Overhang is fully accessible, the company said.
