John Horgan is giving a press conference right now (live), and when asked what his thoughts were about Ben Isitt & his comments re: the demonstration/blockade yesterday, Horgan said "My thoughts on that individual are not printable."

This Council and Ben Isitt do a lot of annoying things, but very few get my blood boiling to the point that I actually shoot off an email to Council. Ben's series of tweets last night and this morning got me to that point.

I would suggest as many of you as possible who disagree with Ben's comments email council and request that one of them introduce a motion to condemn his comments and request he apologize (or resign if you fancy). His accusations of VicPD engaging in deliberate malice are so far off base...just insane really.

Good idea. But also, Welcome to Ben's mailing list.

I don't know enough about the gaslink situation to have an opinion on who is right, but what's clear is that few people actually care very much FN issues, they just like to use FN as pawns to support their other goals.

Environmentalists love to say they stand with FN when FN are against fossil fuel projects but they're not interested in hearing about FN that are for those same developments.

Fossil fuel proponents love to say they stand with FN when those FN are for fossil fuel projects, but they're not interested in supporting FN when they are against those same developments.

The result is gridlock.   And it ain't changing anytime soon.

B.C. Premier John Horgan weighed in on the issue at the legislature Wednesday, answering a question about Isitt's participation at the rally.

"My thoughts on that individual are not printable," Horgan said of Isitt.

"I spoke with [Victoria] Mayor [Lisa] Helps today and assured her that I do not view the city council in Victoria as a mirror image of Mr. Isitt," the premier said. "He will carry on living his life the way he does and will have to reckon with that as time goes by."

The online spat between Isitt and Manak is just the latest blowup in a contentious relationship between the city and the police department.

Last month, Isitt accused Victoria police officers of using excessive force in arresting anti-pipeline protesters at B.C. government offices in Victoria.

"I think police used excessive force, to be honest" Isitt said on Jan. 22, the day after the arrests at the Ministry of Energy Mines and Petroleum Resources building. "I think it was an unnecessary use of tax dollars – our finite resources – on policing."

K’omoks First Nation has put out a press release regarding the highway 19 blockade stating they were not in any way involved with it, that is was organized by “non-indigenous” people, and that it did not “reflect their values”

Resources are always finite if it involves something Isitt isn't particularly fond of funding, like Remembrance Day celebrations.

Isitt has published the following article: https://medium.com/@...le-eb0a00276abc

Here’s an excerpt: “We saw the largest act of non-violent civil disobedience in the history of Lekwungen territory yesterday — a peaceful blockade of the legislative assembly by more than a thousand young and older people, demonstrating solidarity with Wet’suwet’en People and demanding a rebalancing between the settler state and Indigenous people, and between human society and the natural ecosystems that sustain human and non-human life.“

If he calls what went on yesterday “peaceful,” I’m fearful of what the councillor would consider violent. He also believes the media is spinning yarns about the assaults. He maintains they never happened. He also states there were “more than a thousand” protestors, but all day long yesterday the tally from the protestors themselves was 500. Also take note of his focus on youth. These protests depend on young people in their teens and 20s, who are easier to attract to these causes and events, but the comments about them play on the notion that the youth are fighting for their future, etc, and will inherit the world, etc, and are there for those reasons. It has more to do with people in their 30s being busy, and starting to define their more nuanced opinions that may not at all align with their opinions as a student-aged adult.

And they have jobs and responsibilities. Play time is over.

Ha ha...good on John Horgan for essentially giving Isitt the middle finger. Never voted NDP in my life at any level but JH just might have made a convert today.....

And they have jobs and responsibilities. Play time is over.

Children, taxes, a mortgage and an understanding of how the world actually works is why these movements orchestrated by middle-aged men and women depend almost entirely on youth and young adults. Easily impressionable, still developing self-confidence and lacking in life experience to be able to step back and fully assess their actions or understand the implications of their disobedience. Perfect soft targets, malleable and seeking purpose.

I realize the above doesn’t apply to everyone, but the young people I spoke to yesterday about this issue were woefully ill equipped to defend their presence at the protest beyond simple, one dimensional talking points. To them the event was “fun,” it was an act in unison with a group of equally as well intentioned but ignorant people. They didn’t realize they were a part of something that turned ugly, and to the eyes of so many in our society, a real dark moment for British Columbia.

Horgan said it best today: “If that’s winning, I want no part of it.” What a gong show, indeed.

Results from a CHEK poll yesterday.

[the] opinion poll Tuesday reveals 85 per cent of those who took part do not support protesters at the B.C. Legislature. As of 6:30 p.m., 1,520 people had answered yes or no to whether they supported the demonstrators or not. A total of 1,287 did not while 233 did...

At this point I honestly would vote for Horgan, but I don't think I could bring myself to vote for whoever the individual MLA candidate might be in any other riding

Very true. It is funny how First Nations views cease to matter to activists when a Nation supports a project.

The Victoria Police Department says it has identified four assault victims from a rally at the BC Legislature on Tuesday.

In a statement released Wednesday, VicPD says it is still looking for additional victims and witnesses after receiving reports people were assaulted and injured outside the government building.

The police department says four people reported assaults – three of which received non-life-threatening injuries and a fourth who says they were not physically injured but equipment they were carrying was “reported to have been damaged.”
