Space for meetings, conferences and other events is available for rent. In fact, according to pavilion operations manager Dan Henderson, some people have already expressed interest in renting space.

"I think the space will be well used," he said.

You'd hope so, after spending $10m on it.

Who is running this, the municipality?

Oh yes, looks like it:

Most in Esquimalt are very happy with what the sewage plant compensation funds are beings spent on, including this beautiful addition to Gorge Park. A fine replacement to what was destroyed by vandals after the Japanese internment.

Swung by the Gorge Park yesterday to see what all the fuss was about. This is a very impressive addition to the park.

As kids we’d swim in a tidal pool at the west end of the park. Then suddenly they closed it down to swimming. Maybe it had something to do with sewage outflow which we know Esquimalt has had issues with in that area.

Yes we swam there too. There was also a tennis court there.

Now it's a sanctuary of some sort.

Yes, good times. I believe the last time we went we were in grade five, mid-90s.

Looks great, Sparky, thank you for the photos.

That whole area is so, so underrated.

As the man said "better late than never"; you are so right Mike. I get a chuckle out of those who still cling to (mostly) 1970's stereotypes re: the entire muni really.

We're in the Selkirk neighborhood so literally about a 20 second drive to the new pavilion, which is as nice inside as it is outside. The park in summer and on nice days any time of the year always gets a huge amount of use, both on and off the water, as there are tons of families in the area, with and without kids. The Gorge Canada Day celebration is one of the best in the entire CRD, regularly drawing 20,000 people, and is a great example of neighborhood spirit....you know one of those places where residents actually know and talk to and smile at each other. I can think of many examples in some of Victoria's so-called - ahem - 'toney' neighbrhoods where people lived beside or across from others sometimes for years never knowing their names or speaking to or acknowledging them. I know of one area in particular in an especially snotty part of town where the local hobby seems to be a game of "how many times can I call bylaw" on my neighbors just to harass them because I am a miserable POS....

There is so much new development currently going on and planned in Esquimalt that its hard to keep up. That includes a new six story condo going up soon a couple blocks east of us, a corner development literally behind us that will see three SFH 's going up, and the new Central Block condo on the site of the old Gorge Pub. The area is central to everything including grocery stores and all main arterial/highways in and out of the core. I can equally be on the highway to the ferry or airport, Colwood, or the d/t core in about eight minutes depending which direction I'm headed. My sis and brother in law live literally on top of Bear Mtn; I get that it's positioned as a so-called 'lifestyle choice' but a team of Clydesdale horses couldn't drag me to live out there especially given the complete daily traffic clown show which is only getting worse. Not a chance.

When I lived in Fairfield "street elements" and the late night noise usually associated with them were infinitely more prevalent there - two blocks from CSV - than Selkirk, and its not even close. Cop patrols were a nightly thing in that neighborhood whereas after ten years here I can literally count on one hand the number of black and white drive-by's I've seen in all this time. With lots of interesting developments happening across the bridge in Tillicum/Gorge and especially upcoming along the Esquimalt Rd corridor I'm very much looking forward to seeing how the area evolves as it continues to reinvent itself.
