The Chocolat on Fort St has closed permanently. They were in business at that location for more than 10 years.

Fort and Douglas? Between the newsstand and the passport photos?
Correct. Arguably the best chocolate shop in town. Their website says "closed permanently".
If you start peaking behind the papered over windows downtown you will find that a shocking number are vacant inside.

^BTW, the sushi place in the St. Andrews mall could use some business. That's the place with Victoria's friendliest customer service.

I noticed the Korean restaurant Cera in the Janion has changed into a Nubo and expanded outdoor seating. I walked past the Nubo farther up Pandora and it was still open and didn't have any signs of closing. I can't find anything about it on their website. Are there just two Nubos a few blocks apart now?

and 73 shops.
20 of the 44 "arts and entertainment" venues are closed.
156 "services" businesses are still closed.

Aren’t they owned by the same group? Maybe they just exchanged spots?

david's tea is pretty much done. except online.
https://www.rcinet.c...-restructuring/
The Canadian based tea chain, David’s Tea is planning on restructuring its business under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA), which is a Canadian federal law that covers insolvent companies and allows them to restructure their business and financial affairs.
According to a press release, the company expects its application for court protection from its creditors under the CCAA to be heard by the Quebec Superior Court today. David’s Tea plans to take similar steps for bankruptcy protection for its business in the U.S. as well.
David’s Tea, which owns over 220 locations in the U.S. and Canada, intends to accelerate their transition away from brick and mortar and focusing on becoming a leading online seller of loose-leaf tea and accessories in North America.

I admit I will not miss the smell of walking past a David's Tea store. Just as strong as walking past a Subway or a Lush, but sickeningly sweet.

Maybe I've not passed David's Tea enough but I totally agree about the offensive odour from Subway and Lush.

^Clearly, neither of you have walked past the exhaust vent from the hot yoga place.
Just the thought of that place makes me gag!

“Of the nearly 15,000 restaurants in B.C. maybe 60 per cent are actually up and running,” he said, noting many have decided to remain closed temporarily as there’s no business for them and others have closed for good. “Some may never come back. We expect to lose between 20 and 30 per cent of the industry … it’s just too much to expect some of these small businesses to hold on.”
That is especially true in the major markets.
“Downtown Victoria and downtown Vancouver are just disasters,” he said. Downtown restaurants rely heavily on tourism and office workers to stay afloat. “Volumes in those two big markets are tracking 20-30 per cent of where they were at this point last year.”

La Fogata on View Street where the original Pig BBQ opened appears to have closed. There’s a sign in the window that says COVID won.
It was a short-lived victory. I just walked by and they’re open again.
