It's not really fine... Lot's to get done and no bodies to do the work...  I guess it's fine if we don't want or care to improve things.  Everyone is swamped right now.

One could argue that if the CoV focused on issues within its domain then there would be lots of people available to do the work!

Very few staff would be working on that sort of thing.  Most are operations....  Not much of an argument for that.

If the City jobs are going unfilled but the City is still running fine, maybe stop the hiring. For taxpayers sake.

You don't want potholes fixed etc?

I believe they hired six people to count trees or something. That’s what we don’t need money spent on.

Yesterday marked the most on-street parking transactions since the pandemic began.  Encouraging.

Canada's last remaining COVID-19 emergency benefits expire today and the federal government says it has no plans to renew its unprecedented support programs, created in response to the pandemic.

Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland's office says Canada's surging job growth and record-low unemployment rate is evidence that ongoing pandemic support will not be needed beyond May 7.

_________

The expiration of benefits means workers will no longer be paid by the government should they need to self-isolate due to a positive COVID test, or if they have to leave work to care for a child due to sickness or pandemic-related school closures.

A program for workers forced off the job due to local lockdowns also ends today.

Maybe some people will go back to jobs now.

Apple Inc. delayed a plan to require workers to come back to the office three days a week, citing a resurgence in Covid-19 cases, marking the latest setback in its efforts to return to normal.

The company informed employees Tuesday that it’s delaying the requirement, which had been slated to go into effect on May 23, according to a memo seen by Bloomberg. However, the company is still expecting workers to come to the office two days per week. The company said the requirement is being delayed for “the time being” and didn’t provide a new date.

So inflation hits another 20 year high today at 6.7%. We are all aware of food, gas, rent, etc all increasing in price far more than 6.7% so the question is then what is declining in price and keeping the rate lower?

According to the statscan website, the following items are the biggest decliners in price: Main contributors to the 12-month and 1-month change in the Consumer Price Index (statcan.gc.ca)

Main downward contributors

Mortgage interest cost-4.4

Telephone services-6.7

Travel tours-18.6

Passenger vehicle insurance premiums-3.0

Passenger vehicle registration fees-28.2

Are these guys on crack? I can see vehicle insurance perhaps being a little lower due to less travel during covid but does anyone think mortgage rates, travel, and their cell phone bills are declining?

My cellphone plan just literally INCREASED by 6.5%. I didn’t even know cellphone plans could randomly increase if you don’t change anything. I was told my $75 plan would remain in perpetuity I when I was called and offered a deal better than my $65 plan, two years ago. Now it’s $80, with no change in service, and I always have my own phone so qualify for whatever discounts they offer.
