aha gotcha! so they also can't keep in or out a virus then!

Gotcha?  Not quite.  Remember that the virus isn't floating around by itself, it's attached to droplets far, far bigger than the virus.  The mask catches the vast majority of these virus infested droplets before they have a chance to get further away than the tip of your nose.

eating chocolate does that too. Or using cocaine once.

Long term effects are still nil.

And don’t worry about my posts being “dangerous”. Nobody follows my advice.

Top lockdown states, by deaths per million and unemployment rate:

NY: 1,688 and 15.7%
NJ: 1,796 and 16.6%
MA: 1,268 and 17.4%

Top non-lockdown states:

KY: 173 and 4.3%
UT: 108 and 5.1%
ND: 148 and 6.1%

How about GA, TX and FL?

GA: 398 and 7.6%
TX: 301 and 8.6%
FL: 398 and 10.4%

To be fair NY, and to the same extent NJ got hit super early, and it's NY where likely the most people come and go.  This isn't a great interpretation of the numbers but you can use them I suppose.  There are many more reasons for things, not just lock down or not.  We will disagree on the long-term effects I think for a while till more is learned but I'm not sure you are correct on this one.  It's ok for us to learn more information as it comes out, this isn't something to stick to your guns because of what you believed to be true in early April.

Have a look at the active cases....

every single day they get better. people get more skilled at avoiding the virus if they choose to.

every day therapies get better.

every day the death rate lowers as a oercentage of closed cases.

and we still sit at exactly one person under 19 dead from the virus in this country despite the hysterics of many teacher unions about back to school.

the economy in some sectors on the other hand has been permanently damaged.

How do you know that? That is assumption.

I think that may be because so many teachers are actually older than 19.

Yes the concern is the ability to spread all over.  How many kids under 19 would need to die (or have permanent issues) for the 'hysteria' to be ok?  I would suggest it is concern rather than hysteria...

And what happens when that droplet evaporates, as water does, and releases the virus trapped within? Guess it goes straight through the mask and into your body, or gets blasted out towards whomever is in front of you.

In the end, the mask just delays the inevitable.

well for example, several dozen kids died this summer in drowning accidents just in north america.  and it will happen again next year and the year after that.  what will it take for you to finally ban recreational swimming?  nobody needs to go swimming.  it's much more deadly that covid.

lots of kids have permanent lifelong injuries from sports.  and car accidents.  why do we allow this?

Maybe instead of guessing you could try reading about it:

97,000 positive tests for kids in the last couple of weeks. If even a tiny subset have lasting repercussions, widely opening schools across the US with no real plan could end up being a bigger problem than all of the examples you cite combined, by an order of magnitude.

the lasting repercussion might be a lack of education and difficulty with post-secondary education success.  but OK.

^The last effect will be far fewer socialists. As Elon Musk and many other tech leaders have stated, skip school and learn online. Save 98% of the cost and be in a far better position to be hired in less time.

The problem isn't kids having COVID-19 per se, it's them bringing the disease to their older relatives and neighbors. As well as the more elderly staff working in schools.

as I’ve said over and over again. if you are old and/or scared of the virus you know how to avoid it. stay away from school kids. or don’t let them attend school if you live with them. school is optional this year.

all those that work at schools can easily stay 6’ away from everyone else.

The droplet drying out is what you want...
