The droplet drying out is what you want...

https://www.business...humidity-2020-6

"Once droplets evaporate, the coronavirus that's left behind quickly dies. So the chances of transmission depend on the droplets' lifespan.

"

Interesting. Also interesting is another article linked from the first that states,

"The coronavirus can live on a surgical mask for 7 days, cloth for 2 days, and paper for 3 hours."

well for example, several dozen kids died this summer in drowning accidents just in north america.  and it will happen again next year and the year after that.  what will it take for you to finally ban recreational swimming?  nobody needs to go swimming.  it's much more deadly that covid.

lots of kids have permanent lifelong injuries from sports.  and car accidents.  why do we allow this?

C'mon, the intent is always to reduce all of these things.  When you were a kid there were far less safety precautions.  Now equipment is better, we now have seat belts and car seats, safer cars etc.  Your arguments that it's only old people dying and young kids get hurt anyway so we don't have to worry about it is ridiculous.  It's about mitigation of the danger to people we are working on.  Regarding kids learning, they will need to adjust as required.  It might be tougher for some sure.  About the social changes and how people deal with each other, kids have already been locked into their phones, they will be fine.

One Article is from April and the other from June...  Sometimes information is gained over a couple months.  The intent is not to wear the mask for 7 days.  I would also add that if you have the virus on your mask you already have the virus and you have protected others.  I'm not sure the virus doubles in strength so you wouldn't be worse off.  I do not have an article to support that.

it’s about REASONABLE mitigation. with COVID we’ve gone way too far because we’ve let officials have too broad powers.

In your opinion..  Maybe even in mine, but who cares what we think...  I just keep seeing the numbers increase and keeps looking worse.  It seems most people have higher concerns than what you and I do.  When it's the majority, that's kind of how we operate.

^The last effect will be far fewer socialists. As Elon Musk and many other tech leaders have stated, skip school and learn online. Save 98% of the cost and be in a far better position to be hired in less time.

Fine with this for post secondary, but keeping public elementary and secondary schools closed is class warfare against the working poor

I don't know how people can even pull this off financially.

A single spot for a child at a private daycare is $790/month for an average facility. Others have rates well in excess of that.

As someone with a young child I can tell you it's damn hard to make ends meet & have an enjoyable lifestyle if your household income is <100k. You're lucky to get to $790/month AFTER subsidies.

And how many young families have that sort of income these days?  They're pulling it off somehow.  (Bank of mom and dad I suppose)

I'm not sure what percentile I'd fall into, but I consider myself & my wife as having good jobs (combined we make $60/hour, but she is part-time). We budget, try to cut costs where we can, and even still, we're not putting much aside every month (Thankfully we are able to do a monthly contribution to an RESP for our child).

Enough of my personal anecdotes. COVID goes on for more than a year and we may see a great depression esque economic era.

Unlike COVID, those examples are not contagious.  If someone drowns, the people they were swimming with don't have to wait two weeks to find out if they are going to drown too, and they in turn are not at risk of causing other people around them to drown just by being around them.

You mean to tell us that there are people here who will use an apples to oranges comparison to rationalize their thought process?

people can CHOOSE to 100% avoid COVID. as I’ve been saying for months.

just like they can choose to avoid swimming.

but we should not take away their right to choose different activities.

There's that, and then some are moving to where mom and dad live in order to benefit from their help with the kids, or mom and dad (who can afford it) are moving here to help with their grandchildren.

I would love to see the most recent data for migration trends as a result of COVID.

When our kids were little my wife went to school days and I worked nights. Don’t people just make it work anymore?

People make mistakes and spread the virus.  I don't want you to get to decide that you can spread Covid around.  You can't tell me to go swimming but you can certainly infect me.  Do you not get that?  Stop calling this swimming.  You can do many activities still just some have some restrictions.  Sorry sometimes that's not a right.  If you want to use examples, you don't get to drive 99 kph in a school zone, sorry you don't get the right to do what you want, but your choices affect other people so drive slower...  Again it's not your right to decide for others.

Many do, for sure. You have no choice but to make it work.

Where things get tricky is if both mom and dad have day jobs and there are no grandparents around, or who aren’t working.

I was more bemoaning the state of things. We definately make it work (I work during the day, the misses is casual in health care and will pickup a night shift here and there during the week & the odd weekend shift) but I guess it's a problem as old as time - making ends meet will always be a challenge for anyone in the "middle class", especially if they have to pay for daycare to get dual income going.
