But if you don't want to go to a rape hotel when you fly home they'll find you $750.

What about liability if you do infect anyone?

this looks like a very bad idea.

A proposal is taking shape for a micro-fulfilment centre tailored to Vancouver Island businesses as they move into the highly competitive online marketplace.

A feasibility study and in-depth business plan are still to be completed, but Corry Hostetter — who heads up the Parksville and District Chamber of Commerce’s Oceanside Initiatives business-attraction strategy behind the project — is optimistic about the centre, planned for Snaw-naw-as First Nation land in the Nanoose Bay area.

When the pandemic hit last year, Hostetter’s organization looked at ways to help area companies and discovered that, with fewer customers coming through the doors as a result of new health measures, nearly all of them were looking to start selling their products online. “So what we did is we helped businesses through that challenge.” But as the weeks passed, local businesses ran into problems such as supply-chain gaps, high shipping costs and lack of warehouse space for storing merchandise.

Some business operators were unable to continue with online sales, because they had to pack orders while still running their stores, then deliver them for shipping.

“We all thought: ‘Wouldn’t it be great to have some type of fulfilment centre on the Island?’ ” said Hostetter, who believes the proposed facility would be unique.

“There are warehouses on Vancouver Island and there are delivery specialists, but there isn’t anything that is exactly like what we’re proposing.”

those businesses described above sound weak.  this idea will not help them.

what exactly are these businesses selling?  if they are retailers selling he exact same manufactured products i can find on amazon they are not going to be able to convert their lost walk-in sales to online for that product. if you are a guy that used to walk in to get your swimming pool chemicals every spring but you stopped going in last summer, now you might never go back, now that you know how to order it from amazon.

^ There are lots of companies that specialize in fulfillment. No need to build something from scratch. Sounds like the proposal is mostly focused on getting Government money.

that's what i feel too.  if there was a business case a smart business would have one.  i looked at the proponent's resume.  no indication she has any logistics background whatsoever.  she has a career of business booster organization (BIA etc.) administration jobs.  no real business experience.

How’s that ocean hub coming? Can it double as a sea-based delivery service?

The world economy is bouncing back from the pandemic crisis faster than expected, thanks in part to successful coronavirus vaccines and U.S. stimulus efforts, but the improvements are uneven and joblessness remains a big concern, according to a new forecast.

The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) on Tuesday raised its expectations for global GDP growth to 5.5 per cent this year and four per cent next year. That is up from a December forecast of 4.2 per cent growth in 2021 and 3.7 per cent for 2022.

They heard you. SIPP announced yesterday that they have a new 16 member board and acting-CEO (Craig Norris). No money however, want the Government to step in and give them funds.

Yep and along with that we are seeing rapidly rising bond prices and inflation. This is what is driving Fed and Provincial actions at the moment. Each 1% rise in interest rates is adding $12B a year in interest to the debt they have created which will force them to cut programs and costs since they won't be able to raise taxes enough to offset that. Very quickly becoming unsustainable.

Mr. Norris headed up the lux marina in the inner harbour which is now up for sale.  Wouldn't it be great if this new Ocean Hub could purchase that marina and repurpose the restaurant into the 'office' hub?  Or, an investor with deep pockets and in need of a tax break could buy it, lease it back to Ocean Hub for $1 a yr.  Win win!

Victoria yacht marina on market four years after it was built, as pandemic leaves slips empty.  "Craig Norris, chief executive of Community Marine Concepts, which operates the marina on the Songhees in Vic West, said his phone has been ringing off the hook since Tuesday evening."

Higher interest is good if you are wanting to buy a house though as prices may at least go flat for awhile or maybe go down a bit.

^^Don't forget, those collecting the CRB don't count as unemployed since they are not looking for work. Real number is closer to 15%+

This is nutty.

I was at a restaurant yesterday gathering inside with about 40 people, all strangers other than Mrs. Mike K.

As long as savings accounts and GICs are under-performing overall real-estate returns, money is going to flow into the markets.

Right now $100k earns $500 per year at the bank (per year!) Meanwhile $100k gets you a $350k condo with a $250k mortgage that returns $1,600 gross, meaning you’re clearing $200/month in rent in a perfect world.

I just can’t see things changing until banks offer at least 2.5% on a 1-year term.
