I checked out Leopold's 3 months ago with some buddies. Pretty chill place with a decent selection of beers. I didn't eat but the other guys did and they all loved it. But of course we were all drinking and everything tastes great after a few beers. If you ever hung out at Steamer's it's kind of fun trying to figure out what was where back then. I haven't been back but would return.

Well yeesh, you gotta learn to drink if you’re going to hit the bars downtown.

Yeah, that diet coke must have done it.

Life's a journey......so roll down the window and enjoy the breeze.

An hour+ wait to get in so we bailed in favor of White Spot; what I could see of it through the windows looked promising although I confess based on those I saw both inside and outside I'm pretty sure Leopold's target demographic is not my age - I could have been everyone's dad :). That said the menu is interesting enough that I would go back in future.

I haven’t been out in so long, I have no idea what it’s like. Do they only serve Victory Gin now?

That’s hilarious. Earlier in the year a buddy and I couldn’t get into any places on lower Yates due to line-ups and we also bailed for White Spot.

Know it all.

W-S reminds me in many ways of the Keg - you know exactly what you're in for, they're both consistent regardless which location you go to - the menu rarely if ever varies - there is something for everyone regardless of their food preferences and what they do they generally do very well. And unless you go overboard on the appy's and booze, or add in a bunch of 'extra's' like special coffee's or dessert, you won't break your wallet in the process of having a very decent meal.....

Lucky Bar owner Dylan Pitcher was on the phone from inside his Yates Street nightclub Tuesday, chatting while he rapidly ticked the final items off his “maybe one day” list of renovations.

Replace baseboards? Check. Install new oak tabletops? Check. Spruce up paint, signage and furniture? Each one was eventually crossed off a to-do list that grew to an almost unruly size during the pandemic.

“It was definitely difficult,” Pitcher said of the strict provincial protocols which have made it almost impossible for live event venues such as his to operate during the COVID-19 era.

“Even during the last few months, there have been a lot of questions to ask. It has been difficult to have a staff and performance infrastructure in place when you don’t have a finite date to re-open.”

Pitcher said he made the decision to close the club, due to COVID-19 concerns, on March 16, 2020, with the expectation that he would be back up and running in a matter of weeks. That timeline was quickly adjusted to a couple of months, which eventually became one with no forseeable end in sight.

When the room reopens on Friday, for a night of music by Victoria’s DJ Murge, it will be the first activity inside the 188-person venue in nearly 21 months.

Until the province moves the goal posts once again.
