I don't recall voting for a premier though... We don't do that.

Exactly.
But there is a shred of democracy when you know the party leader when you vote for your “representative”. If you can call them that.
Maybe we will have an election. I have always voted for my local person... Never for who was going to be Premier or PM.

That's probably because Vancouver and Ontario decide that for us, respectively.

That’s 0.24% of the BC population. That’s a tiny apple cart ruling the province. It should be turned over.
That's about what most Premiers would get for votes, sure more in larger ridings. I'm not sure that's a good argument. Has a sitting Premier ever been ousted in this manner? Just wait for the next election, we could have one pretty soon.

I’m not sure that’s a good argument for our “democracy” in general.
HST was stopped this way.
Province wide petition wasn't it? Then it went to referendum after that.... I think...

Same legislation.
Province wide petition wasn't it? Then it went to referendum after that.... I think...
It has two parts, the first providing for the recall of MLAs and second providing for popular initiatives to force government to consider legislation not on the government’s agenda. With an initiative, a registered voter may organize a petition under a set of precise procedures that can result in voters asking the legislature to consider a proposed legislative bill. Under these rules, proponents have 90 days after the petition Is issued to obtain the signatures of at least 10 percent of the registered voters in each and every provincial constituency. If they do so the legislation is submitted to a special select committee of the legislature.

Yeah I think for something as in your face as HST was to people, that 10% per riding might be easier to get than 40% in a specific riding. It's not really a lot more than 40% of registered voters that actually vote. In Eby's riding it was a little over 50%. Very interesting to see what actually comes of this though.

Horgan is quitting.
He is looking quite gaunt. Hopefully he is feeling ok.
Must be tough watching Eby come in and doing a 180 on staffing and policy. Lots of Horgan's loyal MLAs are being benched in favour of a new progressive crowd.

John Horgan (before the RBCM fiasco in any case), was the one silver lining in the otherwise dark cloud that is the current provincial NDP government. Any pretences of being a centre-left party have been dropped in favour of hard core socialism. This causes me great concern for the future of hard working, taxpaying citizens in BC.

Melanie Mark announces resignation from B.C. legislature
The first Indigenous woman to serve as a B.C. cabinet minister has announced that she is resigning from her seat in the legislature.
During a speech today, Melanie Mark reflected on her upbringing and journey as an Indigenous politician.
Last September, the Vancouver-Mount Pleasant MLA resigned from the NDP cabinet, where she served as Minister of Tourism, citing personal matters.
Once Mark officially tenders her resignation, a by-election must be held within six months.
