A former federal election candidate who describes herself as a human rights and climate advocate has entered the British Columbia New Democrat leadership race.

Anjali Appadurai is the second declared candidate in the leadership contest, joining NDP member of the legislature David Eby, who stepped away from his jobs as attorney general and minister in charge of housing to run for leader.

In June, Premier John Horgan announced his intention to step down once a new leader is chosen.

^She will benefit Eby by making his generally left wing positions look like middle of the road.

The BCGEU has issued the following notice:

BCGEU members at LDB distribution centres provincewide begin job action Monday

BCGEU members will set up picket lines at 3:30 Monday at four BC Liquor Distribution Branch wholesale and distribution centres.

The job sites involved are:
  • Delta Distribution Centre (DDC) – 7003 72nd Street, Delta, B.C.
  • Kamloops Distribution Centre (KDC) – 9881 Dallas Drive, Kamloops, B.C.
  • Richmond Distribution Centre (RDC) – 3389 No 6 Rd, Richmond, B.C.
  • Victoria Wholesale Customer Centre – 2291 Government Street, Victoria, B.C.
Only the BC LDB distribution sites listed above will be picketed.

Who else is picketing:
  • workers at the LDB Wholesale Customer Service Centre and the Customer Care Centre - Cannabis Operations in Burnaby will join the picket lines above

All other members of the B.C. public service, including those working at BC Liquor Stores, should report for work as usual and will not be picketing.

Perhaps we should have a new thread specifically dealing with pending government strike matters.

No strike when their members were being forced to be injected with an experimental substance to keep their jobs? I hope the entire thing collapses! I can make my own jail hooch and buy weed old school from the guy with neck tattoos and the pit bull. Actually I don’t drink or smoke anymore so I’m good either way.

Is this a new tax suddenly owed, related to alcohol sales?

...we are just going to raise prices on everything.

That's the NDP for you: making life more affordable one-additional-tax-at-a-time.

Wouldn’t the prices have already risen in 2019?

I’m just not sure what the relation is between alcohol sales and the EHT. Matt, help a guy out!

A fairly significant portion of revenue is liquor, and we use this revenue to pay the eht, so if my ability to get product to sell is restricted then it’s more difficult to pay this tax.

Remember when msp payments went away? Did people really think they weren’t still paying it? Plot twist.

It's right up there with "free transit" and $10/day daycare. Somebody always has to pay the true cost.
