haha. Like how did you meet him. Sounds like an interesting story.

Annual global partners meeting, we had him as a keynote speaker one year... maybe 2008-09 ish when he was considered quite pragmatic, at least by the committee.

CSIS documents reveal Chinese strategy to influence Canada’s 2021 election

China employed a sophisticated strategy to disrupt Canada’s democracy in the 2021 federal election campaign as Chinese diplomats and their proxies backed the re-election of Justin Trudeau’s Liberals – but only to another minority government – and worked to defeat Conservative politicians considered to be unfriendly to Beijing.

The full extent of the Chinese interference operation is laid bare in both secret and top-secret Canadian Security Intelligence Service documents viewed by The Globe and Mail that cover the period before and after the September, 2021, election that returned the Liberals to office.

The CSIS reports were shared among senior government officials and Canada’s Five Eyes intelligence allies of the United States, Britain, Australia and New Zealand. Some of this intelligence was also shared with French and German spy services.

Over the past decade, China, under President Xi Jinping, has adopted a more aggressive foreign policy as it seeks to expand its political, economic and military influence around the world.

MPs on the Commons Procedure and House Affairs committee are already looking into allegations that China interfered in the 2019 election campaign to support 11 candidates, most of them Liberal, in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

Trudeau Foundation to return $200,000 donation over possible connection to China
- https://nationalpost...ection-to-china

The report alleged a Chinese billionaire was instructed by Beijing to donate $1 million to the Trudeau Foundation in 2014, the year before the Liberals came to power under Trudeau.

The report says that he and a second wealthy Chinese businessman donated $1 million in honour of the elder Trudeau in 2016, including $200,000 to the foundation.

Pascale Fournier, the president and CEO of the Trudeau Foundation, which the prime minister has not been involved with since becoming leader, says the amount has been refunded.

Get a load of this:

The donation has drawn scrutiny from the Conservatives, who say it has compromised a recent report on foreign interference in the 2021 election.

A report assessing the work of top civil servants tasked with monitoring and alerting the public of foreign interference in that election was released Tuesday. It found that while there were attempts to interfere in the vote, those attempts didn't affect the overall integrity of the election.

The assessment was written by Morris Rosenberg, a former senior public servant for more than 30 years. Rosenberg also served as the [Trudeau] foundation's president when Zhang made the donation.

It looks like copies of briefs prove the Trudeau government was aware of Chinese dollars being used to prop Liberal candidates.

Oops.

“A large clandestine transfer of funds earmarked for the federal election from the PRC Consulate in Toronto was transferred to an elected provincial government official via a staff member of a 2019 federal candidate,” the PCO report stated.

This document was derived from 100 Canada Security and Intelligence Service reports and was produced by the Intelligence Assessment Secretariat. The IAS is a division of the PCO that regularly provides national security alerts for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his cabinet.

Global News also learned of an earlier, high-level warning about clandestine funding of China’s “preferred candidates” that came from a bipartisan panel of parliamentarians two months before the 2019 election.

The information came from Canada’s National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians, which reviews national security matters and promotes “government-wide accountability.”

Established by Trudeau in 2017, it reports to the Prime Minister.

From the Canadian Taxpayers Federation:

Did a foreign government pay off your member of Parliament? You deserve the truth.

You deserve elections that are free from foreign interference. But government intelligence
reports show that foreign agents could be meddling in Canadian elections.

On Thursday (Mar. 2), a Parliamentary committee voted in favour of a national public inquiry to investigate the allegations of foreign state interference in our elections. But it’s not binding. And Liberal MPs voted against the national inquiry.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau continues to resist an independent inquiry. On Monday, Mar. 6, Trudeau announced a “secret committee established by him, the chair selected by him, to investigate the allegations,” as
reported by the Toronto Sun.

Trudeau also said he would appoint a “special rapporteur” to determine if Canada needs an independent public inquiry. But that’s like paying an investigator to tell you whether you need to be investigated. Do you think that will bring truth to power?

You and other Canadians pushed Trudeau to take some action. But Trudeau’s announcement isn’t enough. You deserve to know what’s going on. You deserve to know if foreign governments are meddling in Canadian elections or funding your politicians.

Trudeau is feeling the pressure. But you need to keep the heat on.

All MPs regardless of party should support elections free from foreign interference. You can tell Liberal Caucus Chair Brenda Shanahan to support an independent public inquiry on foreign interference in Canadian elections. Here’s Shanahan’s email:
brenda.shanahan@parl.gc.ca

For what it's worth, I wrote to Brenda Shanahan. I encourage others to do the same.

Ever since his ludicrous 2013 comment about "admiring their basic dictatorship" because it allowed the ChiComs to "turn their economy around on a dime" pretty much says it all and shows clearly Junior is one of - take your pick:

a) a complete fool, and worse than a novice when it comes to knowledge of international affairs

b) a naive clueless idiot of the highest order, who may have some basic understanding of the above - but simply does not care, or

c) is disingenuous at best on the question of Chinese interference in Canadian affairs, an outright liar at worst and wants the issue to go away since it might adversely impact certain key Liberal party supporters and potentially some Liberal MP's of Asian extraction which means either way....VOTES.

Is it any wonder with Sock Boy at the helm that the Five Eyes alliance is losing faith in this country with great rapidity? Or that Australia is quickly supplanting Canada in the US-UK orbital alliance?

In his 2016 trip to China to shore up business ties Trudeau earned the nickname “xiao tudou" - or Little Potato because his father - a well known admirer of Chinese despotism - was called "Big Potato". I would just amend the nickname for his son to Mr Potato Head and leave it at that.....

Michael Chan has been on the radar of CSIS and other federal agencies for a very long time; its not at all unexpected that a Liberal-backed provocateur would now out of the blue pull the rather tired and entirely overused 'racist' card re: Canadian government agencies meanwhile remaining completely silent on everything from Chinese treatment of the Uyghurs to the kidnapping of the "two Michaels". On all of them - not a peep from comrade Chan.....but now with China clearly in the media cross-hairs predictably here he comes spouting nonsense about racism in CSIS. Anything to deflect.....

Methinks something is badly amiss with our dear Mr Chan, and literally sitting all these years right under Liberal noses. I wonder if the CPP kicks him extra cash under the table to be Beijing's mouthpiece in Canada, something he has done faithfully for many, many years now.

Trudeau the Younger can run and stick his head in the sand all he likes re: Chinese interference in our internal affairs but at some point there will be a reckoning. At this point IMO the main hope is that the MSM media doesn't get bored with Junior's continual 'denial denials' re: his Chinese pals, and continues to hold Liberal feet to fire until an official and public inquiry has to be convened -

Playing the race card is more often than not an act of desperation when one doesn't have a solid defense for or denial of the situation one is in.
