I heard from a reliable source that construction is still planned to commence in the coming months. The geotechnical work has been completed and the developer has arranged better financing with lowering interest rates. This has also led to some design improvements and overall cost savings. They have opened a sales gallery on Goldstream next to Tim Hortons. I do think this is all TBD.

Business is booming at the scene sales centre that was supposedly opening months ago. Still not completed and zero communication with buyers of the project raises a lot of questions marks. Officially at 3 years since sales started and no signs of life at the site.

It's a shame because there was a lot of positive momentum with this project coinciding with construction of the new post secondary campus on Peatt / Goldstream.

My guess now is they’ll reach a point where deposits will be returned, and the project will be rejigged as a rental, but that depends on what they can get per square foot with condos. The condo market is beaten and battered, even on the West Shore, but it’s still strongest on the West Shore relative to the core of the region.

This project was expected to get underway last October. I suppose it's sidelined?

But the government has decreed we must build homes.

We are excited to share that Blackrete Builders of Victoria has been contracted to build The Scene and will be mobilizing on-site this Wednesday, September 24, 2025.

They have been diligently preparing for this milestone, assembling their team and coordinating with subcontractors. Being one of the most experienced and reputable construction companies in Greater Victoria, and having very strong relationships in the construction industry, Blackrete will ensure a smooth and efficient build of The Scene project.

While the project previously experienced some unforeseen delays, we are pleased to confirm that the building permits for the start of construction of Towers A and B and the commercial building have now been fully secured and paid for. This critical milestone clears the way for construction to move forward without administrative obstacles.

Blackcrete also stepped in to complete the Skyeview condo
along Island Highway in View Royal, which ran into trouble during its construction phase. Post-completion the entire building went up for sale, and the purchasers had to walk away. Sales went quite well initially.

According to a contact, it doesn’t look like there was any mobilizing of construction crews going on yesterday, but maybe things will start moving by tomorrow or early next week.

The building permit has been paid for so the big dollars spent there are not likely to go to waste.
