Gretzky actually pronounced Macedonia the way the locals do, with the c as a k sound. Makedonia. Everyone in the Balkans was impressed.
But he was doing the English version of the names.

The team "still to be named" in Canada's group is the overwhelming favourite to win our group. We are rated #3 of 4 (Qatar behind us).

World Cup Pride Match in Seattle will feature… Egypt and Iran. Say what?

Seattle will host the Group G match between Egypt and Iran - countries where homosexuality is illegal.
In a statement on Tuesday the Egyptian FA said it has sent a formal letter to Fifa secretary-general Mattias Grafstrom, rejecting "in absolute terms" any activities linked to LGBTQ+ support during the match.
But the local organising committee told the BBC that it is "moving forward as planned with our community programming".
The game takes place on the weekend of Seattle Pride, and two days before the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots - generally regarded as the birth of the LGBTQ+ rights movement.

Soccer fans have accused FIFA of a "monumental betrayal" after latest prices for World Cup tickets began to circulate on Thursday.
The governing body allocates eight per cent of tickets to national associations for games involving their team to sell to the most loyal fans.
And a list published by the German soccer federation revealed prices ranged from $180-$700 US for varying group stage games. The lowest price for the final was $4,185 and the highest was $8,680.
Those group-stage prices are very different from FIFA's claims of $60 tickets being available, while the target from United States soccer officials when bidding for the tournament seven years ago was to offer hundreds of thousands of $21 seats across the opening phase of games.

One thing the marketing group does plan to do is create event space along Government Street where people can gather and watch soccer games, though it won’t be branded to ensure FIFA doesn’t come around looking for a piece of the action.
“We’re talking about a fun place to see the world’s beautiful game. We’ll make it fun, but we’re not going to get out of control.”

I don't know. Just go to a pub or a restaurant - or maybe your HOME to watch the games. Every one is free and on TV.

Lionel Messi's tour of India kicked off chaotically on Saturday as fans threw objects, ripped up seats and invaded the pitch at Kolkata's Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, also known as Salt Lake Stadium, after the Argentine soccer great made only a brief appearance at a ticketed event.
Satadru Dutta, the event's chief organizer, has been detained by police, said Rajeev Kumar, director general of West Bengal police.
Messi was scheduled for a 45-minute visit to the stadium, but his appearance lasted just 20 minutes. Tickets for the event were priced from about 3,500 rupees ($53.44 Cdn) — more than half of the average weekly income in India — but one fan said he had paid $130 US ($180 Cdn).

That is an odd/confusing slogan. Now I might say they don’t need one. But if they feel they do, this one seems strange.

I'm hearing of a boycott starting up against the world cup due to ticket prices and hotel accommodations.
