Some of it is before potential expansions. But it’s mostly right.

Why are the last/smallest stadiums out of sequence?

Leaders in New York and New Jersey are warning commuters about serious travel congestion during World Cup matches this June and July. NJ Transit says only 40,000 round-trip tickets from Penn Station in Midtown Manhattan to MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, will be sold per game, significantly limiting capacity.

Cost may also be a concern. NJ Transit is expected to charge $150 for a round-trip train trip between Penn Station and the Meadowlands during the matches — instead of the usual fare of $12.90, a massive temporary increase.

Met Life Stadium is a full house almost every Sunday during NFL season. Why is this so much different?

Remind me, why would a significant percentage of game attendees be choosing to start their journey to the stadium from midtown? Some people would be aware that there are hotels and motels closer to the venue, you think?

Do we assume everyone attending the games in downtown Vancouver will be coming directly from the airport?

Everything has to be full of angst and crisis.

On the one hand we've got scary news stories about potential difficulties getting to the games, security issues, whatever, and on the other hand we've got scary news stories about lack of interest.

Metro Vancouver airports are preparing for the arrival of world leaders, celebrities and the ultrarich in their private jets as they descend for the FIFA World Cup, which starts next month.

Andy Margolis, the chief operations officer of Vancouver International Airport, is expecting a spike from the 15 to 25 private planes that typically arrive at YVR daily.

But he says the influx is unlikely to compare to the 181 private planes that landed on one day during Taylor Swift's Eras Tour in Vancouver in December 2024.

"(The World Cup) is over a number-of-weeks period. I'm not anticipating the numbers on the days either side of the games here to get anywhere near Taylor Swift. So it's all within our manageable capacity."

Vancouver is hosting seven matches in June and July.

Private planes arriving at YVR must book their landing time and work with one of three specialty companies that have bases at the airport and advertise perks like luxury hangars and pilot lounges.

Too bad those foreigners are penalized if they want to invest in BC.

The head of Toronto’s World Cup organizing committee said Tuesday the city hasn’t sold any sponsorship packages in weeks as it scrambles to close a $5-million budget gap that materialized after FIFA requested costly additions to its official fan festival.

“We continue to seek that funding,” said Sharon Bollenbach, executive director of Toronto’s FIFA World Cup 2026 Secretariat, during a media conference at City Hall to mark one month before Toronto hosts its first match, on June 12.

Only four host city supporter sponsorship packages have been sold so far, she said, though sales of hospitality packages are also proceeding.

“While the days are getting tight, I am confident and I know that our commercial team are still working all the prospects they’ve had on their lists, and we’re continuing to do all that we can to make sure that we close any budget gaps.”

You'd think sponsorship packages would have been sold years ago.
