Let's just hope we do something before we end up like Tokyo in the 80s where prices were 300x the price in Manhattan.

Our rate is about 25 per 1000. So more than 5x the Singapore population increase. That’s not comparable.

That just means we need to build 5x more social housing per person than Singapore

Why is social housing the solution, I wonder?

Most people would prefer not to live in social housing, given the choice.

Most people desire to - and indeed do in this country - own their own homes. Gives them autonomy, a sense of ownership and pride, they can make real improvements that add comfort, style and/or value as they so choose, and allows them to generally earn equity and even pass along property to loved ones upon death.

Property ownership is the most satisfying type of housing, across all demographics.

How about they just stop sending everyone letters each year telling them their houses are worth $200,000 more than last year. That’s probably the biggest impact there is on house prices. It’s not a reflection it’s a manifestation.

What does the province rake in every year with the PTT, 2 billion plus? It’s like gambling, smoking and liquor, they know consumption is bad but the sweet sweet tax dollars so they only pretend not to encourage it.

It's more so government built affordable housing which people end up buying. Here's a link to the government's blog on it. https://www.hdb.gov....-singapore-icon and another interesting thing about this policy is that you could consider it to be woke, as in they put people from all social classes and backgrounds next to eachother to increase social cohesion.

I think you will find putting people of all different income levels together does not add to social cohesion. It might in countries with very strict vagrancy and disorder laws. But not in more free countries, where people mostly are free to live where they choose.

How about they give away free yarn and Etsy shops instead of crack pipes and tents….

Or we could build and properly fund welfare homes. Take a read through Singapore's destitute peoples act https://sso.agc.gov.sg/Act/DPA1989

Co-op housing works well here. I have a few friends who truly do have a leg up from it.

Right.

Power to require destitute person to reside in welfare home
3.—(1) Any public officer acting under the direction of the Director‑General or any police officer may take in the officer’s charge any destitute person and deliver that person to the custody of the Director‑General.

We have homes for most people. Almost everyone living on the street has burned their chance at a “welfare home”.

Remember the recent story about the women kicked out of their free suites on Blanshard near Mayfair? In Singapore if they did that they would be sentenced to jail.

And “We” shouldn’t be the government. If you are passionate about it, build a community living zone. There are many on the island built by individuals. You will succeed better when you see things as they are in this world. Government is not your ally. I pay my taxes so they don’t kill me.

NO government is one's ally, at least not for long.

And the minister can cut through any red tape.

7.—(1) The Minister may, by notification in the Gazette, establish welfare homes at any places within Singapore that he or she thinks proper for the reception, care and rehabilitation of destitute persons in accordance with the provisions of this Act.

99.999% of those working in and for the government are not elected.

Yeah sure let's hold elections for 100s of thousands of public servant jobs across the country. That will be fun.

I didn’t say that. I’m pointing out why to not expect revolutionary change when you elect new puppets….
I prefer the First Nations method actually. The clan mothers pick a Chief who is the speaker of the people. If he gets out of line he gets a visit from the man without mercy. Then they pick a new one.

All our top positions are unelected. The commander and chief of our military is the king of England. Our Lieutenant governors of each province and our governor general of the country. All appointed.
