I think even if you had some elderly downsizers they would welcome a parking space for their visiting family and friends.

I will sell you my place at 500 a square foot, and it comes with 6 legal parking spots four of which are fully enclosed garages.

Saanich to check in on missing-middle housing rollout

Eight units have been completed since three-to-six-unit developments were allowed on single-family and duplex lots under zoning changes introduced by the province

Over the last year, only eight units have been completed under the zoning, while 38 units are under construction. The rest are still in the permitting process.

[...]

Saanich director of planning Lindsay Chase told council Monday there are currently 75 building permit applications for small-scale, multi-unit housing projects.

Of those, 40 are for duplexes, eight are for triplexes, and 27 are for fourplexes. There is only one sixplex application.

Everyone deserves a home that accommodates their needs at a price they can afford.

The City of Victoria is working on several policies to address housing supply and affordability in our community. Visit the City’s engagement platform to learn about current and upcoming engagement opportunities on housing.

The above policies have been in the works since 2016.

From Sparky’s link:

Victoria Housing Strategy 2016–2025
The Victoria Housing Strategy provides guidance for housing policies and initiatives that meet residents’ needs. We are in Phase Two of the policy, building on Phase One and Council’s Strategic Plan which was adopted in July 2019.

The strategy includes 44 actions that focus on ways to:

improve affordability, stability and choice for renters
encourage new housing supply

encourage a range of housing options to meet the needs of residents

track our progress and improve the City’s housing policies and programs

try bold ideas to achieve new results

Know it all.

Yeah and everyone has a home that accommodates basic needs. They just don't agree to limit themselves to those needs and the home is not suited for other things like pets, following rules, keeping it clean, etc.

Just three missing-middle projects completed in Saanich so far, but more in pipeline

Another 15 projects representing 40 housing units have been given building permits, while building-permit applications have been filed for an additional 61 projects, representing 165 units.
